Quilt With Us

While at my retreat at Caroline's Sewing Room in West Branch, MI this past weekend, the soon to be owner of a new quilt shop came in. I also learned of one other shop that will be opening soon, and a third that has just opened. They are:

Quilt Inn (tentative name) - Frankenmuth, MI -- YES!! I've been saying we need a shop in this town for a long time! According to the owner, it will probably not be until the summer. She will have overnight space for retreats as well as the shop & classroom space.

Interquiltin' (tentative name) - Interlochen, MI - don't know when this one is opening

Can't remember the name - Milford, MI - this one is open now.

I think it's such a bright spot to see women venturing into the business world in this economic climate. I'm a firm believer in supporting independent quilt shops, designers, etc. Not to say I don't shop the chain stores, but I really try to make the small quilt shops my first choice.

Vanda & I are going to meet at Mary Maxim's on the 14th to see if they are still carrying fabric - SOMEONE has to find out!!! We'll keep you posted,

Mary, It can be overwhelming, but so great to go in there, and find something you purchased 2 or 3 years ago, and be able to purchase more!! Sounds like you had a great time at Carolines. I also enjoy Mary Maxims, but I have gotten away from all other crafts, cept an occasional cross-stitch project. I have made counted cross-stitch christmas stockings, for each of my grandkids, my 3 kids and their spouses. But quilting is my first love. Now if I could only quilt, and forget all the other things,, like housework!!

I have been to Carolines. It is a nice shop. Sounds like you have a great time at the retreat. And the updates of the quilt shops is great. Nice to know more are opening instead of closing like so many you hear of.

Lynne - Sew Elegant is overwhelming! I don't know how they keep track of everything - I like Mary maxim because I do more than just sew & it's fun to putz around & see what other crafts are out there!

Mary, thanks for the update on quilt shops in Michigan. I never heard about the one in Milford, about 5 miles from me. Have to check that out. Last time I was in Mary Maxim's, about 2 years ago, they still had fabric. Have you been in Sew Elegant, just north of Mary Maxim's?? It has so much fabric, you could get lost in there. Lynne
