Quilt With Us

I feel like I am flying around! We flew to Colorado for our niece's high school graduation two weeks ago, then the next weekend we had a birthday party for me in our backyard so it was cleaning, weeding, planting, and painting. Then three days later we flew to Chicago for our granddaughter's first birthday, then we flew home and I worked at the quilt shop for 2 days and today ... I haven't done anything productive.  We are going to Colorado in two weeks to clean out my mom's house.  Then in July we are going on a vacation to Montana.  I think i'm going to be too tired to relax!!

In between all of this I'm trying to finish another graduation quilt, for our other niece.  I'm making the same pattern and using the same fabric so part of it is already cut out.  I will have to get into my sewing room and start sewing! I love quilting, but it seems harder to get motivated when I HAVE to do it and I have a DEADLINE. Plus, I am t.i.r.e.d.

The quilt shop where I work is for sale because the owner is retiring, but nobody has bought it yet, so we are getting ready for liquidation staring July 1st.   It is sad, but we are moving back home to Colorado sometime in the next year so I would have been leaving.  Still, I will miss everyone and all of the fun we have there. It is really a wonderful social experience to quilt with our friends, isn't it?

My goodness - sounds like you are plenty busy these days! Love the picture and the quilt. Do take care of yourself and if you are too tired to enjoy making the quilt now - give a picture of it in a card and let the graduate know it will be made soon for them. Quilting is for enjoyment, not pressures and deadlines.

Thanks to all for the nice comments! Actually, the woman who owns the quilt shop is retiring after 30 years. She is in her seventies and her husband is eighty; they have had some health issues over the past year.  Lots of people have been interested but can't come up with the down payment.  The quilt shop is fabulous and we have lots of loyal customers, busy clubs and classes.  Many people come to the shop from eastern New Mexico and all around Texas.  We had some people from South Africa a few months ago! Anyway, all of us who work at the shop have been shopping while we can, and I think the liquidation will be very busy, although sad.  I feel really close to my friends who work there and shop there.  I met one of my very best friends when she came into the shop.  I'm so glad I got a job there after I retired from teaching elementary school; it has been a complete change of pace.

The quilt pattern is "Yellow Brick Road" by Atkinson Designs and the fabric is "Marmalade" by Bonnie and Camille.  So I call this quilt Jams & Jellies.  I love this pattern and have made it many times.  It always looks so different depending on the fabric you choose.  Try it- you will love it!

I never did end up sewing today, but I unpacked from our trip, did 3 loads of wash, worked in my flower beds, cleaned up the kitchen, and cleaned house.  I'll sew tonight after it cools off...going out to dinner.

You've been on the go!  Traveling tires me out as well.

Cute quilt!  Hope someone swoops in and buys the quilt shop to keep it open.

Beautiful quilt and ladies!!! I'm packing today to leave for San Diego tomorrow....we have to be up at 3am for a 6am flight! Traveling is grueling sometimes, but worth it when you get there. I'm sure there are many little shops struggling to stay open. I try to support as many local shops as possible.

Very pretty.  Traveling is exhausting for me so I can relate to you being tired.  And I have never been on a vacation where I actually relaxed.  Have fun, there is always time to quilt when you get home.  I'm sorry for the folks who will lose their quilt shop.  I worked in one and had a great time helping people pick out fabric and then seeing their finished projects when they brought them back to show us.  That shop went out of business when WalMart came in with fabric.  I still miss the little shop.

I love the pattern and the colors in this quilt!   I know what you mean.  It is hard to quit whever there is a deadline and it sounds like you have been so busy. I don't know when you had time to finish this one
