Quilt With Us

On Christmas Eve day all of our bank accounts were frozen. Somebody tried to drain all accounts. We had gotten an email asking if we made a charge of 44.31 in Miami. I've had credit cards hacked before, but never a debit card. We absolutely never use it other than to use the ATM at our bank. So, this is how good they are getting...the bank manager read everything on my phone...looked at her computer and said...I don't think you've actually been compromised until she saw a phone number that isn't theirs. They are even issuing me a new fraudulent bank card...which of course will be turned into the bank. We have security on all our devices through the hospital except my cell phone...I do everything on my phone...we now have Norton 360 select. We had to open all new checking accounts, savings, etc. Think about all the direct deposits you have and all of our bills are auto pay because we travel so much. I thought I was going to be sick in the bank. Took 4 hours to get this on the right track. Took me two days to make a the passcode changes and notify everyone. The IRS will be issuing us a pin number. Unfortunately, SS numbers are out in every doctors office, insurance, but in case of identity theft we're not taking any chances.

BUT...the good news is my father has a clean bill of health after a round of radiation for bladder cancer. So, all in all lessons learned and prayers answered!

We head to Florida in 3weeks! Can't come soon enough!!!

Wishing everyone a very Happy 2020! I'm looking forward to seeing what this year brings!!!

Thanks for giving us the bad news first. Your good news is wonderful! My credit union calls me if there is a charge from another location, unless I've let them know I was traveling. We've had some issues, though. Mostly identify theft (DH has a very common name.) Have fun in Florida.

Thanks everyone! It is a good idea to set up accounts with all three credit bureaus to put a freeze on anyone opening an account in your name. You can easily go in to reopen if you need to apply for credit. Sharon have a safe trip to AZ. Beautiful area.

We have two colleagues staying with after New Years for five days. Love to cook... so looking forward to spoiling them! During the day, I will be packing for Fl.

It's great that the bank is on top of everything and you got it all straightened out quickly. It happened to us when mail was stolen from our box on a Fri. A walker found the empty envelopes on Sun and brought them to the house. We had the accounts frozen and did the same as you. Boy, what a hair raising experience that was. So glad that it was caught!!!! We leave for AZ on Jan 13th and can hardly wait. Have to get the motorhome ready to go. You have a great time in FL!!!!  It's awesome to hear that your dad has a clean bill of health.

Great news on  your dad, but boy what a hassle especially right before Christmas Day!  It is scary how easy it seems to be for hackers to access our information today.

What a terrible experience! Glad it was caught right away.

Praises for your dad's clean bill of health.

Oh Pam, I'm so sorry to hear this bad news. It's downright scary living in today's world. We have a lot of modern technology but with people stealing our Identity and ripping us off, is this technology worth the trouble.

I have been wondering if you was going to Fla. this Winter.
