Quilt With Us

Happy fathers dad to those with that someone special. Ok today turned out to be more than my other half was expecting!! I work weekends while the other half has weekends off. Today he called at 11am or so to tell me his daughter had a baby. I thought this was great news once I realized this wasn't a practical joke. I was wrong. After two hours of calling back and forth I still hadn't been able to convience him to call his daughter at the hospital much less go see her. She's not married(Not a big deal), she doesn't have a job(She just graduated high school), she didn't call to tell him she was in the hospital. Ok her mother didn't even call to tell us what had happened. I finally deciphered the calls from him. It wasn't the lack of a father for this baby or the age of his daughter. He was mad and very anger that she didn't call to tell him what was going on. The news came from his parents who got the message in a text from the daughter at the hospital. Apparently the daughter didn't know she was expecting. She went to the hospital last night and they did a test. Surprise, 30 minutes later she delivered a beautiful baby girl. I left work early, got home, and convienced him that he needed to see his daughter, not an easy task for this hard nosed man. He is still shellshocked and I have a feeling that the term grandpa is not going to be well received around this house for a while. "Life" isn't always fair but it does make the days interesting. I hope everyone else had a more peaceful day.

I'm not sure why it happens, but babies seem to have that magic healing touch. No matter how angry your husband is, after about a minute of holding that baby and he will be totally wrapped around that little girl's finger. They are so cute!!

Congratulations on becoming a Grandma!!

Babies are gifts, no matter how they come into your lives. I hope she is healthy, everyone doing well, and everything works out easily. Congratulations.

Kathy, hard as it is for your hubby to take, not hearing it from her and nit even realizing it; it's still your blood and so very important to make the new Momma and baby a part of you. He will come around, if he has a heart at all......(and I think he does, he's married to a quilter) It may take sometime, but hopefully he can let go of it sooner, rather than later!!
Congrats to the new Grandparents for you have a beautiful new baby to love and spoil to your hearts content!
Keep us in touch as to how this goes!

Kathy, this very same thing happened to my brother, but you would now think his sun rises and sets on that child. A few hours of holding that child will melt even the toughest of hearts.
Ours may have been more peaceful but I guarantee yours was unforgetable.

I have set and read my blogs and I see that I am not the only one who has problems with family. I commend you on talking your DH to go see his daughter. I guess our lives have many twist and turns and I have found that the way to handle each situation makes you stronger to handle the next one that comes along. Congratulations on the new baby. May she bring some closeness between father and daughter. God Bless for sharing your story.

That happened in our family...my husband's cousin said she had a severe stomach ache...had a son... it's a baby whom only needs to be loved...life is difficult enough...love that baby as if it is the last one to be born...
