Quilt With Us

2/16/2010... Well friends, it has been a long time since I've had the time to get on here... between Quilt Club and then I'm also doing a beginning quilters workshop once a month as well... Things are coming along with the Harley Davidson Quilt.. It has to be done March 1. Today I put the 2nd side on... I've started designing the foot drop section and shouldn't have any problems getting it done on time... Here is a photo.. it is so big now that it is hard to get a good pic of it...

8/29/2009... I finally finished the two corner blocks... they are set on point so when they drop from the corner of the foot of the bed, the T-shirts stand up right so they can be better viewed... Hope you all like them...

8/24/2009... Well the top is in one piece now!!!! I have the corners for the drop designed. I will have a better picture later, once I can find two taller people to hold it up for the picture, but you can click on the picture to make it larger to see the detail!! I hope you all like it!!

Well the last 3 blocks are for the top of the quilt are done!!! Block #16, Block #15 and Block #14... I hope you all like them!!!

Well, sorry ladies and gents I kind of ran into another block with the plain designs... but I'm past that now and designed the last 3 blocks on Tuesday. Wednesday I got block #15 done and then on Thursday I got block #16 done... Today I worked on the braids for #14... 3 hours after I started I got the first braid done and thought "Hmmmm, this looks too long!!" Sure enough I had miscalculated the width of the strips for the braid and so it was alot longer than I needed... So now I'm starting again and have about 1/2 of one side done... I'm hoping to get the last 3 posted Monday or Tuesday and hopefully the quilt top posted by Wednesday... We'll see...

Well, Number 13 is done... I think you'll like it!

Well everyone, Number 12 is finally completed. I got over my design block and decided to go simpler on this one...

Well everyone, Number 11 is complete, I've even attached it to Number 6 (just above it) so the full effect of the two borders could be seen... I'm coming into some that may be a little tough to get my creative juices flowing, but we will see... I'm hoping to have the top completed in 2 weeks and then start on the drop blocks...

Well everyone... Number 10 is finished and posted... I'm not as happy with the construction of this one as I am when I piece... I did machine applique and had a few problems getting things to line up right... But as my friends keep telling me... I have to learn to say "Oh, well"... so I guess that would fit today. I do however love the concept behind the block...

Well everyone... Number 9 is finished and posted. Sorry it has taken me so long... I got it designed Friday and got half of it pieced on Monday, Tuesday got taken over by hand quilting and family needs, so I finally finished it today! Hope you all like it!

Thanks so much everyone for all the input on the layout of the T-shirt quilt! I have decided that I'm going to leave as is for now and wait to see what the next 8 blocks do for the quilt. My original idea for my T-shirt quilts is that it will all blend into a quilt top and not be individual blocks... I still may be taking the bottom and the left edge off of block #3 and replace it with a darker batik fabric from the stash that was brought with the T-shirts. Thanks again everyone for the great ideas passed on to me... I really love the way everyone came to my assistance! If I can ever be of assistance to anyone, just give me a shout!

Okay, all you ladies that like batiks and have worked with them before.... Let me know--- are the fabrics blending okay... I've posted a photo of the first 8 blocks layed out how they will be in the quilt... Are they going to look okay??? If not, now is the time to redo if I need to!!

Well Block 8 is finished and posted in my photos... I like it, hope all you do too! We are into tournament play now in softball, so I have games almost everynight... have one tonight at 7:30 and then again on Friday night and 2 games on Saturday... then we have 5 games next week as well! Love my grandkids and boy do they keep me busy!

Okay, Blocks 6 and 7 are there now... I just finished block 7 this morning!! Sorry I haven't gotten this done before now, but this week has been crazy with ball games and grandchildren stuff!!! I'm also trying to do my part for our club by hand quilting on our raffle quilt 6 hours a week, so I'm keeping busy!!

The 5th block to the Harley T-shirt is now completed.. I've posted it in my photos... Off to design #6!!
I finished block six as well today... The design was so vivid, I kept it simple as to not take away from the T-shirt.

The first 4 blocks to the Harley T-shirt quilt are posted.. #5 has been designed and fabric has been cut... have 13 2" blocks and 6 2-1/2" blocks to make for it... will be doing piecing tomorrow!!!!

Thanks everyone for your great comments on the First Harley Davidson T-shirt Block. I always worry about what other people think of my work! I love designing my own blocks for T-shirts so it makes the quilt unique for the owner of it. I'll try to get each new block posted as I get them done.

Amazing! We live on a county highway and can tell when the Harley riders are out by the sound. Love it. Our deceased son would have loved this quilt; he owned 2 of them. The first was a sportster which he sold when he got married as he tho't he couldn't afford it. He always wanted another. While he battled testicular cancer he wanted no regrets if he didn't "make it" so he bought a beautiful blue Heritage Soft-Tail; he was just tickled pink. He put on about 200 miles before he passed away less than 2 months after he bought it. I co-signed with him so after his death it was mine; I knew my husband and I would not ride it so I sold it the following Mother's Day with tears in my eyes as the new owner drove away on Bart's bike. My husband brought home a stray puppy a year or so after Bart died and we named him Harley D; he was heaven-sent. Enjoy the quilt and the ride.

Hats off to you Chris on this fabulous work of art. This should take a tour around the country in all the big quilt shows.
