Quilt With Us

I live in the Cincinnati area of Ohio and my DH and I are headed to New England next week just because we have never been in that area of the country before......and because we want to....... and because we can!  My question to my quilting sisters who live around that area-- what and where should we NOT miss on this trip???  We will have 2 weeks to visit Mass., Maine, New Hampshire,Vermont.....or any other state and area we want to visit  during these 2 weeks.  We are interested in quaint, small towns, history, beautiful scenery, good food, and QUILT SHOPS!!   My dh is so wonderful about letting me search out and visit quilt shops where ever we go and even goes with me to them!! So, what should we look for in the area??  We will be in Boston for 3 days and seeing as much as we can there but we also want to drive up to Maine and anywhere else we find interesting.  Our road is open before us!!   Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!

Thank you!

I would love to.  Just finishing some of the details today and we are renting a houseboat in Boston harbor for the nights we are in Boston.  II'll let you know how that goes!   Looks very fun though.

Kathy - please make sure you post lots of anecdotes & pics when you get back.  I'd love to see them (and I bet others would, too)!

Oh my goodness, thank you all so much.  I am writing down each and every suggestion and put as much on my itenerary as possible.  I can't wait.....and it would sure be fun to have you girls on the trip. I think I would prefer that over another offer I recieved.  Have to tell you that story.   I have gone to my gyn for 15 yrs. and he remembers that we camp and like to travel around.  He asked me this year when I saw him......just a couple of months ago.....where we were going this year and I told him New England.  He was so excited for us.  He said he loved that area and said he would love to tell us his favorite places to see.  He said, better yet, we should take him along as a guide.  I told my dh that conversation and then I said...."that's just I want.....to take a trip with my gyn as a guide.  Sounds really great.  Really.  Just great."

Just realized I forgot another of my favorite NH shops - Little Lamb Quilt Shop in Barrington.  It's right next door to Calef's Country Store, home of snappy old cheese, and across the street from The Christmas Dove shop.

Hi Kathy, we New Englanders are great people,,you won't be dissapointed. Go to Quinsey Market/Faneuil Hall Market place, in Boston,,the greatest chocolate chip cookies you will ever taste, the other food is great too. Also there is a Quilt shop called "The Bunkhouse quilt shop" Wanda Makela is the owner and I have dealt with her,,she is wonderful and make your day. they are located in Lyndeborough, NH. Get directions on the computer.  If you want to come and stay at a very old house, 1790, come over to Connecticut, and there you will see lots of Antiques shops in downtown Putnam,,,

The Stitchers Acadamy in Worchester, Mass,,,,There you will meet my friend Vicy Niro, who owns the shop and there is also several other shops there as well,,stained glass, paintings etc. it is in a very old mill. Also check out the lighthouses in the area,,they are so intersting to see, esp if you live inland..

You will see exceptional color this year with the colors of our mountains. they are sure to please your eyes so don't forget your camera,,,The White Mountains of New Hampshire is sure to bring the best out in you...be ready and enjoy the trip...Have fun..You'll want to come back for more..!!!

Cathy we did East Coast and Newfoundland last year.  One of the places we really enjoyed was Portland, we took a trolley bus and we saw around the city and it took us down to the lighthouse. Lots of quilt stores along the way. I would check out the internet for stores in the area you are visiting. I would have loved to have see Keepsake Quilting and I understand it is massive, lots of fabric. But we were along the coast line more and it is mid Maine. Enjoy the colours.

Kathy...what a lucky lady!  Definitely stop in Henneker, NH at Quilted Threads...it is a beautiful store and the staff were just the nicest ladies I have ever met.  I stopped there on my way to Keepsake Quilting and look forward to the next visit.  Knights in Maine is a great store...just don't forget to go upstairs!  I didn't realize there was another whole floor of fabric when I went the first time!  The New England Museum is a must see...the town is worth the stop.  It is just north of Boston in Lowell.
