We headed out two weeks ago meandering down to New Orleans to a conference. We both like civil war history so decided to visit some of the military parks. We started at Chattanooga at Lookout MT. Amazes us how they fought that battle on a mountain. We went downtown, which is on TN river and a huge regatta was taking place. There were thousands there. Travelled onto Vicksburg, MS. Beautiful area with the gorgeous Antebellum homes. We took a swamp boat tour in Lafayette, LA. Always thought that wouldn't be my cup of tea. Boy was I wrong...absolutely gorgeous. Our guide was informative and fun. We visited the Tabasco factory on Avery Island. The only place it is made. Takes three years to age. That morning, they were bottling for Italy. At 9am they had done 87,000 bottles. Sterling salt factory is also in this area. Took the back roads to New Orleans. They were harvesting sugar cane in the fields. We were wined and dined by departments that Gary works with. OH my...the food was unreal!!! Spent time shopping and of course going to Cafe Demond! Spent our last night on Bourbon street with friends from San Antonio. What fun...driving home the next day was challenging!!! We came home to a snowstorm so got us back to reality very fast.
