Quilt With Us

Just checking in. It's nice to see some posts on here. I'm hoping to get a Sunbonnet Sue quilt finished. I have  the blocks done but customer orders keep me busy and during the Summer I spend a lot of time out doors so getting anything finished is difficult. Now that Fall is here I won't be outside as much and will have more time to work on my projects. I need to make a quilt for my bed. My quilt is faded, thread bare and needs to be thrown out. And the cats claws are not helping.  I'm also sick of looking at the same kitchen curtains I made when I came here. They are still in good shape so I won't cast them out but I need a change.

I know what you mean about being indoors more.  I  am finding the same thing with the chilly fall temps, and all the rain we've had.  Hope you dive into making yourself a beautiful new quilt for your bed, as well as the some new curtains.  Changing curtains can give a nice face lift to a room sometimes.

Hi Sue, nice to see your comment. My sewing room is a mess, I start something and then alterations come in. Instead of having a place for projects I start and don't finish, it all lands in a heap on my cutting table.

You actually have a good excuse for not getting quilts made. It's important to see your Mum every day to check on her. I'm sorry that your son and wife miscarried. It's heartbreaking news when you're looking forward to a new baby in the family.

It was good to see your post and update. I finally made a quilt for our bed a couple of years ago, it seems like I always had quilts to make for gifts and didn’t take time to do one to keep. I’ve been in a quilt slump lately, I’ve had some fabric laid out on our coffee table for about 2 weeks, but that’s as far as it’s gotten. My mom has been having health issues and I try to visit her daily, so that’s part of my dilemma. I also found out today that my oldest son and his wife just miscarried......not good news, but I pray their next pregnancy is successful. Good luck with making those curtains and bed quilt, you are an inspiration to me.

Sharon, I would have a hard time throwing my bedspread out. But mine is a cheap quilt from WM. I had it on my guest bed when I lived in my house. I can understand you wanting to keep your Mum's quilt. Lots of memories.

Janet, I'm glad you're making progress on your quilt. I always find sitting hand sewing the binding on a quilt to be relaxing. My prayers and best wishes concerning your hubby. My son had two stents put in a few years ago. He had a heart attack on his way to work, and had the good sense to drive straight to the hospital.

Peggy, I hope you can find time to get your shower curtain and also for your closet doors. I can't imagine anyone putting doors opening into the closet. I had sliding door on my closet up at the house and I have them here. I'm off to read your blog. Just got home from having supper with my neighbor

I know what you mean. I still need to make a shower curtain and curtains for the closet doors we took off because they opened into the closet. (!)

Good morning Irene.  It sounds like you have had a very busy summer.  I have been working on a quilt that I started several years ago.  Decided to machine quilt it myself and it has been kind of a hassle, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  My husband is having a stent put in his right carotid artery on the 25th & I would like to have this done except for hand stitching down the binding so I can work on that while he is in the hospital.

I still have my mom's quilt that she made when she was in her teens. It's also thread bare and falling apart, tucked away in a closet and is about 83 yrs old. She's been gone for 23 years. It will probably be thrown out when I'm no longer here. You'll find the time to make yourself a gorgeous new quilt and maybe kitchen curtains and enjoy them while you can. Time goes by so fast!!! Have an incredible week.
