Quilt With Us

My Bernina 185 has been with me for so long and now it needs to go and get checked out!  It turns off then comes back on its own, hmmm sounds like a short somewhere to me.   It has to go back to where I got it East of Versailles, darn, darn, darn-it!

We can't afford a new machine, and I truly don't want one, this machine is like a part of me kind of knows what I want and what I'm thinking if an inanimate object had a brain or a mind.  Anyway. Now if only the fix it dude would get my "Dressmaker" done so I could bring it home!

I just called Mr. Jim and he hasn't begun yet. He had a lady come in with a surger who was in a panic, hmm. Maybe I/we shouldn't get to a point i/we can't function without our machines?  It's so difficult for me to not be able to do what I want when I want, now I am sounding so selfish and self centered I may be sick.

Today this quilter is needing to loose the "I" in her life and chill out.  One thing for sure the fabric will be there tomorrow unless the fairies come and sew tonight!  Or what ever picks up the slack for this quilter.....not!

It's Friday which means nothing other than my weekends are busier than when I worked full time....sheeesh!  There is "no-rest-for-the-wicked" which is probably why the gremlins decided to mess with the Bernina.  The battle has just begun a friend gave me a "Spartan" that belonged to his mother.  Jr. and I cleaned it and  "greased" and I do mean "GREASED" who knew?  It has a kind of "dip-stick" that has to have grease put on it thank God for my honey who knows about greasing machinery.

This machine had been in a storage unit so long it has grown hair or dust-fuzz!  Now it comes out of the old cabinet which has now legs, they rotted away, well 2 of them rotted half away.

Wish me luck people the goal today is setting it up and using it "to feed my addiction!"

The Spartan is sitting as is the Dressmaker, Jim got it up and running at least I have "back-up" now.

I'm a little uncomfortable in changing machines due to the possible difference in the 1/4" seams.  Even measuring and checking has caused problems in the past.

I'll take the Bernina to the shop next week after making an appointment which helps in getting a machine back on the same day.  So....it is still being used at this time the sewing machine God is doing very well and I'm shutting it off at intervals to let it sit and cool.  Now I can work on the other machines and have them reading to start a 2nd project......just to keep me busy and out of "withdrawal."

Jeani - Ahhh, poor you. :( I saw the pic of the Spartan. Coolio! I love it. I read some place, U-Tube probably :D, that you should let your machine sit for a day or two after cleaning and oiling. (I leave it over night, but I can't wait longer than that. :D) I think letting it sit before using will keep you from having to constantly adjust settings (tensions) as the oil "works in".  I wonder how that works with grease? LOL. Anyway - hope you're back at the helm and quilting is going good. Di

Janet if you are talking about "Top Stitch" you are headed North on C there is a wooden sewing machine on high poles it is black and does not look like a new machine.  The store sits way off the road to the left the lane looks like it would go to a home which it does but the store is there too.  If they are having sales they have banners at the entrance next to C hwy.  Top Stitch is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Jeani, I looked for that shop a few weeks ago and couldn't find.  I found Hwy. C, but maybe I didn't go far enough after I turned off Hwy. 52.  I can't afford a new machine, but can't seem to help looking at all the new models anyway.

You could always go fabric shopping daily until the machine is back. Now that's a idea to think about! LOL

Hope your Bermina comes back home soon.  Good luck with the Spartan.  You might love it for piecing. I bought a Featherweight a couple of years ago and now use it most of the time for piecing, instead of my newer electronic machine.  Who knows, it might become your favorite.

I have a Pfaff 1471 that I purchased new in 1987.  It has been my faithful friend since and I just love it.  It died about 4 months ago and tomorrow I am taking it to the sewing machine repair to see if it can be resurrected.  I hope, I hope, I hope.  I do not want a new machine either.  I just want this one fixed.  I miss it terribly.  So if there is a "sewing machine God"  I hope he will answer my little prayer that this machine is repairable.

Thank you PQ/NE it's good to know others do have the same problem from time to time.

Jeani, Plan Bs are a big part of my life.  :D  Hope your backup plan (Spartan) works while the Bernina is in the hospital.  Hope she's back home soon.
