Quilt With Us

Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I last posted. However, that does not mean I don't check in. I do check in to see what you all are up to. I have been very busy with my quilting. This past May we had 3 college graduates in our family, my niece, my nephew and my son. I decided to make each a quilt for their big days! I also have another niece who had her first baby in May, so, of course, I made her a quilt, too. In the midst of all this quilting, I also transformed the smallest bedroom in our house into a sewing room! This was really exciting. For years and years I have been sewing in my bedroom with my supplies all over the place, never able to find what I need - you all know what I mean. So, I have lots to share with you.

First, the baby quilt. This pattern is one I made once before. It features dimensional pinwheels and I just love pinwheels. It is just a fun quilt.

Here is a view of the back which shows the quilting:

Now I have some pictures of my new sewing room. The room needed some work - wallpaper to be stripped, painting, and one of my sons refinished the hardwood floor for me.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, I purchased a Handiquilter Sweet Sixteen!!!!!! I have quilted one quilt on it so far. I plan to do some practicing on lap quilts this summer.

On the wall behind the ironing board I plan to put a design wall. Below are the 3 graduation quilts I did. First is one that I started many years ago. I had decided I had to finish my UFOs, so this is one of those. This one was for my niece, Jenna, who graduated from Ramapo College in Ramapo, NJ:

This one is for my nephew Sam who graduated from Merrimack College in Merrimack MA:

Last is the quilt I made for my son, who graduated from Kean University in Union NJ. This quilt I quilted on my Sweet 16. The pictures of this quilt do not give it justice. For some reason the colors didn't show well. It looks gray, black & white, but is actually gray, BLUE, and white:

Donna your quilts are all beautiful.  I love the border on Jenna's quilt. And also the border on the rag rug. Your sewing room looks very cozy. I'm going from a 15.5 ' X 13.10 foot room to a 10.9 X 10.6 foot space and like your room divider idea.  I just bought a room divider to hide a commode down stairs and won't need it at the apartment so you gave me an idea of what I can do with it.  That's if I have space for the divider.  I had my sewing room in an upstairs bedroom before bringing it down stairs and I loved the small cozy space.  Don't know where I will put all my stash but it's an incentive to make a lot of quilts to lower the stash.  I'm digging fabric from my stash to make my curtains for the apartment.  Problem is, I don't have many pieces big enough to make all the curtains.  So that means I l have to buy fabric to make my living room drapes.  I love the handy quilter. It did a great job on those quilts.

Everything looks wonderful.  I really like the pieced quilt backs and your labels.  Great sewing room too.  I bet you love working in it!

Roxanne, your memory is serving you well. The star quilt is indeed CT kit. I bought it on clearance at a very nice price. The owl basket was cocheted by my good friend as a birthday gift. Thanks for your comments.

Good to hear from you, Donna! The quilts are lovely and the grads look thrilled with them. I love the baby quilt. I can just picture exploring little fingers checking out those pinwheels.

WOW! Your new studio is beautiful! Isn't it so much more fun to create in a space you love? I love the wall color, and the floors turned out GREAT! The quilts are fantastic! I love them all, especially your nephews! If I remember correctly (which will be a small miracle) isn't that a CT kit? I think I remember talking myself out of buying it a few hundred times.

Can't wait to see what you do with your HQ! Great job on everything and thanks for sharing!

Where do I begin!  Loved the quilt show you gave us!  The pinwheel baby quilt it adorable, and  the back is wonderful, too.  All the graduation quilts are great, and will be enjoyed for years!  Lucky grads!  Your quilt studio (too nice to just be called a sewing room) is great.  Loved checking out all the details in there, like the cute sewing machine cover, those beautiful floors, the rag rug - I could go on and on.  You will be giving that Handiquilter Sweet 16 a good workout.  I look forward to seeing more pictures of your work.
