Quilt With Us

We're home after another wonderful family holiday!  We were so blessed to be able to go to the Western Cape province (about 1400 km) from home.  I will write a blog later with more holiday photo's, but I have to put in only one... Table mountain - Cape Town.

Anyway, today it is back to reality!  Leon started work again after 4 weeks of holiday and the boys will be going back to school on Wednesday.  We bought all the stationary and school uniforms before the "back to school" rush.  Their hair is cut... they are all ready! Francois will start Grade 7 and Henko Grade 3.

We took the last few days to move the  boys each into their own room.  This went along with a lot of cleaning and sorting through things, getting rid of unwanted (mostly baby and toddler) toys, clothes and equipment.  You won't believe how difficult this was for me!!  To realize they are growing up is not easy... Something must be wrong with me. LOL!  But I decided I will not try and keep them under my wing, I will rather give them wings and then fly with them...  ;)

On the positive side - from Wednesday on I will have time in the mornings to quilt again!  I want to use this opportunity to wish all of you a wonderful, peaceful, safe and healthy 2011!  May you be blessed beyond what you expect.  Thank you for every new friend I met through this site last year for your friendship.  You enrich my life! I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new, precious friends in 2011!

The picture is a beautiful antidote to our cold winter season here.  It's been quite cold with a little bit of wind, but the sun is shining.

I agree that it's hard to let go of our children, when my own were small I used to threaten to freeze them and let them thaw out when they're 30, of course, their sassy reply was "We'd still be kids, freezing won't make us get older". Enjoy your time with them now, as soon as they discover their 'wings' there's no holding them back, with a lot of prayer they will keep coming home to your 'nest'.

Enjoyed your beautiful picture.  Time flies by so fast and the kids grow up before you are ready to let them "fly", but thru their teens you'll understand why it's good to let them go!!! I remember times with mine and now am thankful that we had those years.

What a wonderful vacation that must have been.  I also love mountain views and vistas!  I will never forget the day that I drove my daughter to North Carolina to college.  I cried all the way back to New York...my DH thought I was nuts.  Its tough to "let them fly", but we must.  Enjoy each day...they go quickly.  My youngest is now 35....wow...where did the time go?

May your new year be filled with many blessings and surprises!

I'm glad you and your family had a wonderful vacation. I LOVE the mountains. So I sit and stared at your photo drinking in the beauty of this majestic scene. I live in a valley not far from the ocean but for some reason I am drawn to mountains. I went to Colorado a few years ago and actually cried when I got off the plane when I feasted my eyes on that mountain range. I look forward to seeing the rest of your pictures.

Welcome back from your trip, Lanie.  I too have felt the "growing too quickly" pains.  Taking down the crib and first days of school were tough for me.

Good morning Lanie...Sounds like you had a wonderful trip, beautiful picture. I feel your pain, our gdsons are growing up too fast. You have the right attitude to give them wings...boys,luckily, fly home to Mom for advice and support! Enjoy the ride, it only gets better...especially gdkids!

Welcome Home Lanie!!!and a "Happy New Year" to you and yours.  It is strange that no matter what we do  the kids still grow up on us and mine all got bigger than I am.  I am glad that you all had a wonderful vacation and can't wait to see the other photos.  It is such a beautiful site there at the marina. I am sure that you will be glad to get back to your sewing machine.
