Quilt With Us

Here is the Hunter's star layout, before it was completely put together.  I like the balance.

The blocks finish at 8", so as is, this measures 32 x 40.  Question:  Is that big enough for a baby quilt?  I tend to make mine a little larger.  I'd feel better if this were 40 x 48, but I am not going to make 10 more blocks.  (Next time I'll know to make it a 5 x 6 setting.)  I had originally thought to put borders on it - a narrow border with a wider border to finish at 4" all the way around.  Something like the upper right in this picture:

However, DH preferred the quilt top without any borders.  His thought was that borders detracted from the center instead of showcasing the center.  He did not like the borders at all.  What do you think?

A:  Leave it as is at 32 x 40 (the binding will be turquoise).

B:  Add borders as in the picture?

C:  Make the last border a brown solid or the dark rust  (like a picture frame) instead of the print?

Love it, PQ! I like it without the border or with the turquoise and then brown solid. But I'm sure anyway you finish it will be great. You can never beat a good finish!

Pam - great idea!  More ambitious than I want to be at this point.  the deadline is Saturday.  :)

Thanks all.  Still a bit undecided.  Limited to fabric on hand.  Took Mom to town for a dr. appt. today, so that's why I haven't worked on it today.  (She's fine - needed routine blood work, etc. )  Our country roads are still snow covered.  More snow in the forecast for tomorrow.  A good day for finishing this up.   Not sure travel will be possible on Saturday, but I want to have it done regardless.

OK here's my two cents....inner border turquoise... then your print... and outer border would be all the fabrics 3x2 or whatever the math works out to be! Binding would be red!

I'd use a turquoise border the width (finished) of the star block pieces and then a wider, dark blue or brown border. That would make the quilt close to your preferred size.  Very nice quilt!

Thanks, Carol Ann.  This was a fun one for me - after I drafted and made templates for the block to suit me.  Seemed to come together well.  Those stretchy bias edges, though...  I'm not sure I could stick with it for a big quilt.
