Quilt With Us

Well, I did it again.  I have promised to accompany a friend to a Mystery Quilt Weekend, because she needed a roommate.  Well, it's really a 12-hour, Noon to Midnight Mystery Marathon scheduled for April 4, but it is a two hour drive away, and there's is no way I'm driving back home at midnight.  So we are staying over.  I still have to pick out fabric for a quilt I have never seen.  Let's see, that's a "focus" fabric, a "light" fabric, a "medium" fabric, a "dark" fabric and to top it off, an "accent" fabric!  That's all I know, except for how much of each.  Largest is the "light", followed closely by the "medium".   Cutting instructions were sent to us.  Okay, now you know as much as I do!

I challenged myself to only pick from my stash (gotta prove to DH that I can do that!) and I accomplished that much.  I know when this quilt is done, I will be Monday morning quarterbacking my selections, as always.  This mystery quilt marathon seduced me with promises of chef prepared, catered lunch & dinner; wine & snacks, and staff who will pick out your mistakes and press all of your seams; more or less waiting on us hand-and-foot.  You can see why I weakened, darn it!

They really are fun. I did one and was really surprised by what I got when it's all said and done.  Enjoy! I want to see pictures with all the stages........and remember to have FUN...!

Carol Ann, you need to get in the spirit of this weekend. You may be pleasantly surprised and really like the end result once the mystery is solved. Can't wait to see how everything turns out.

Thanks, Barbara!  I had hoped you would read this (I have two of your books, you know) and give me a little "pep-talk".  I have elected to make a twin-sized quilt, as we were given the yardages for a lap, twin, queen & king.  If I'm going to hate it, I think it's easier if there's less fabric involved!  My fabrics ARE beautiful; I'm going with neutrals with an azalea pink as the "accent" (only 1/4 yard specified).  I feel better.

I suspect you will manage to have a fabulous time and make a very lovely quilt. When I design the mystery quilt pattern for each of my books, I know, of course the pattern I have designed but I try to erase that from my brain as I pull fabrics from my stash. ( short term memory loss is very useful here ) Over the years I have made the original sample and then at least one test model after I have totally forgotten what it looks like. Some are better than others but a couple have been stunning. Bottom line--relax, if you have lovely fabrics, you'll have a lovely quilt. Have fun!

Mystery quilts are usually really great fun.............. It is so nice to have someone that to feed you, pick out the "problems" and just enjoy the time with. I do hope you will be happy once you are that and into the "thick" of it all!

You began with "Weekend" and ended with "weakened."  See how that works?  lol.

"chef prepared, catered lunch & dinner; wine & snacks, and staff who will pick out your mistakes and press all of your seams; more or less waiting on us hand-and-foot."  Yeah, I too would have weakened with promises like that!

Ooooh that's exciting.  Sounds like a great time making a great quilt.  Just "go with the flow" and enjoy!
