Quilt With Us

I didn't start laying out and cutting out the Easter dress for Bailey until AFTER I read Pam's post on things going wrong.  I should have seen that as an omen.  Got the skirt cut out and next was part of the bodice. Had the two pieces of Fabric A all lined up perfectly so the print would match and make the first 6" cut... AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Forgot to turn one of the piece around so there would be a left and a right. Of course by the time I discovered it I had gone too far. I was using fabric bought a year ago, and not for this pattern (so not running out and getting more of the fabric).  There was not enough in the remaining Fabric A to cut another piece!  Fortunately the pattern is one that you use two fabrics for, so I was able to make adjustments. In doing that it also meant I have had to put seams to make other pieces long enough as I no longer had enough of Fabric B to cut them out on the fold, because Fabric B had to now be used for that bodice piece that originally was Fabric A.  So.... what should have been an easy session of cutting out turned out to be an exercise in patience and flexibility.  Guess that I don't need to do any other exercise today, right?  That certainly gave me a big workout! LOL

This comment is a little late since you already have the dress done but I know your struggle.  I started sewing 100 yrs ago with garment construction.  It can be a pain which is why I switched to quilting. But with that said, we still continue to push ourselves with trying new patterns all the time.  Pants are the worst though...

Got to tell you, I have been there and done that.  Not fun, but I'm glad you was able to work it out in the end.  Can't wait to see the dress.

Oh, my, well you figured it out. Bravo!

It was nice of you to take care of Pam's #3 so she doesn't need to.

Move over BJ, I'm in your boat!  I was making a ruffled dress for Piper only to discover that the (Joann's!!!) fabric was only 42" wide, and I couldn't lay out the ruffles the right way.  Went back to buy more fabric and they didn't have it and couldn't order it, so made a second choice.  Then I found that the cotton fabric was heavier than I am used to and I had to hem and gather it in a different way too.  The dress is done but I am not happy with it.  Guess I need to spend more and stick to LQS fabrics!

That is why I don't sew clothes!  <smile>  I'm happy you were able to find a solution though.
