Quilt With Us

Wanted to do some machine applique on a Halloween outfit. I love to use my ancient Kenmore for that. Shame on me for forgetting my friend. It was a struggle when I first gave it some power. I will be giving it a lube job this evening. I forget that it gets summer condensation. So, just a reminder to oil the old ones and replace their needles...they will love and run better for it!

I picked up my old machine at the repair shop on my way back from North Carolina. It doesn't do any tricks like my newer machine but it stitches more evenly. Up and down the needle goes. I am good at replacing needles but wait to replace the rotary cutting blade until it is almost too dull to cut a single piece of paper.

I had a 40 yr old Kenmore and took it in to fix the foot pedal and found the motor was arcing. So, I traded it in on a Baby Lock Crafters Choice that I really love. Also have a Husqvarna 140c with a wider throat and I love this one too. That Kenmore never did any quilting, but it sure ran good and I could clean and oil it. So heavy, but I did miss it. Almost wish I had kept it. Started quilting just after I bought the BL.

I think I need to be oiled!  I'm not as sharp as I used to be either!!!

As we depend upon our "new" machines, which buzz along with little or no maintenance (just clean out the fuzz in the bobbin holder now and then) we forget that our older treasures need regular oiling and cleaning to stay in shape.  Replace needles frequently (I have a "dead needles" box I leave out in plain sight to remind me.)  Rotary cutter blades?  Yeah, I'm there with PQ.  The current blade has to "skip" here and there over the fabric before I notice!

Good tip.  I'm bad about replacing needles and rotary cutter blades.  When I do change them, I can't believe the difference and then wonder why I waited so long.
