JUST CALL ME "DISTRACTED" IN COLORADO!!!

I'm in the UFO group here because I have...guess what...MANY UFO's to finish...they call to me from their cozy, but lonely vigil inside of a huge white cupboard...not yelling, but softly, gently, understanding of course that I will get to one of them eventually, but in the meantime, on my way to the cupboard to pick which one will win this time, I spy a loose pattern sheet that catches my eye from the corner setting on a table...just a tiny bit from underneath other papers...I turn back to the cupboard and take another step towards it...but just take one little bitty glance at the pattern sheet again, this time also envisioning some gorgeous fabric (that is singing to me from a different white cupboard) using the pattern...I slow down for just a sec...(after all, I AM going to the white cupboard to pick out a winning top to be put on my frame today)...I say to myself that it's early in the day yet, I have plenty of time to dream just a tad bit before opening up the white cupboard door...so I walk to my fabric cupboard and start pulling out fabrics to pet and admire as I pull the pattern sheet out front and center now...aaahhh...somehow, time has sped by me again, for a hour has amiably passed looking, admiring, choosing this fabric, then that one, perhaps tweaking the pattern this way...perhaps adding a bit of this, a little of that...I take a break and just for fun decide to flip through some magazines and books for more inspiration...two hours later? Where in the world did the time go? I forcefully bring myself back to here and now and the huge white cupboard is quiet over there...hmmm...my quilttops know me sooo well...they know that today the cupboard will not be opened, but they are content, for soon, they will have a new companion to get to know and who will share their cozy vigil...just call me "Distracted" in Colorado!

Hi Rhonda,
Love your post! It made me laugh out loud. I don't know if my UFO's are as patient as yours. I looked over your quilts and they are gorgeous. Question for you - I see you've done a number of pineapples. I wanted to do one from my scraps. Did you paper piece or use the pineapple ruler? Do you worry about grainline? I was thinking of paper piecing so I wouldn't need to worry about grainline except for the outside round. Your thoughts??

Story of my life, Rhonda. Are sure you aren't talking about me? LOL We must all suffer from the same dysfunction. Or is it artistic license?

I have to agree with Judy, how funny and how true. I keep my UFO's in sealed plastic bins so I can't hear the whispers (that sounds so cruel, I may have to change my ways).

How funny and how true. I went in to do the same thing. I took so many things out that I have to put my room back together before I can get to my white cupboard again. My UFOs don't wake up much anymore when I go in. They are tired of waiting.

This is why I keep my UFO's separate from each other. I'm afraid they will riot.

LOL - Not a bad way to be 'distracted'. It would be different if it were things not in the quilt room, but in there.... ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Truly, how will you choose and not play favorites...you know they talk when you close that door...it's not all good! On the other hand...how do you separate a family? The only solution is to get them all out and work on each one of them every week. They will get fresh air and will finish up at the same time!

Bitter and sweet....a shame and not a shame...is it "distraction" or "fatal attraction?" Guess this story will be continued...always good to examine ourselves - but really, must you....in the presence of your quilt tops? haha!
