Quilt With Us

Just wondering if any of you  have attempted a kaleidoscope quilt? And if so, what were your results. Yes, I am considering making one...am I totally nuts?  Probably.....lol

I am thinking about (nothing definate ..... yet) trying this with the Birchtree fabric for my king sized bed.  I was thinking a very large center piece, a small border, then smaller kaleidoscope squares pieced for one wide border, then another small border followed by a wide border of main color fabric. Anyway, its just a thought at the moment.

I am again out at my daughters helping her with the boys and not sure how long I will be here this time. So, I won't get to start on this for at least a month....maybe longer. Depends on how long I am needed here. She is having a terrible time with the leg she has surgery on back in November. There is another surgery pending, but not until they get the post op infection from  the first surgery cleared  up.

The good news is she is learning to quilt, so I get to play a little while here!

I did a paper pieced kaleidoscope using the pattern at quilterscache.com    I also have a Ricky Timms DVD for making another style of kaleidoscope quilt, but it takes 1/2yd of 20 different prints/colors... have been slowly building my 'stash' for it - will take awhile because occassionally I take one out to use on another project  - I'm the only one that does that, right? lol

The technique I am considering is from the Ricky Tims book which uses strip sets to achieve the color contrasts, so no large print fabric is required. Contrast would be achieved by using the coordinating basics fabrics.  Ah...it's just a thought anyway. Not sure what I really want to do yet.

Maryam, thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

I am always interested in seeing variations of techniques.
