I'm like a kid at Christmas! Signed up weeks ago for long arm class and today's the day. I had been having my quilts done at LQS but not always happy with results. Figured better do it myself then if I'm not happy I really know who to blame. I don't know much (anything) about hand quilting but after seeing work some of you have posted I'm thinking that's something else I need to explore in future. Start with long arm and then go from there.
So little time, so much to learn!!!

Comment by Mary, Tewksbury MA on March 7, 2013 at 4:29am Class was great- only 3 students so plenty of time for questions and hands on experience. 4 different machines, 2 different Gammills, Statler and HQ16 sit down. Got to free motion on the Gammills and HQ. HQ doesn't have stitch regulator, so it was not my favorite. She had us using rulers and pantographs. Class $50 for 4 hrs and was definitely worth it. Great teacher, explanations were clear.
I was Goldilocks but instead of too hot/cold, I was too slow or fast- but got better so I think there's hope for me! You can rent machines to practice, teacher is in guild that does lots of charity quilts. So you can rent machine and practice on their quilts until you feel secure to do your own. Win win- I get to practice, charity quilt gets quilted! This shop only does quilting so when you rent limited people in shop and teacher is there to help if you need it. Think I found a new hang out, and its 15 minutes from my house!! Already booked time.
Comment by Nicola/NJ on March 6, 2013 at 10:18am Just relax and enjoy the class!!! I took one last year and had a great time!! The quilting wasn't perfect but the little one hasn't noticed the mistakes!! LOL!! I wish I had more time to get to the store to keep up with the long arm skills that I had started to learn!!
Comment by Barb/WI on March 6, 2013 at 9:22am I am with PQ, having long arm class envy! Enjoy the class, I'm sure you will learn so much.
Comment by Prairie Quilter/NE on March 6, 2013 at 5:40am Oh, Mary. I'm trying not to have long arm class envy. :D I would LOVE to take a long arm class. This will be so much fun for you! Let us know how it goes. We'll be cheering you on from a distance.
A new door will open for you with this new discovery. One word of advice - "practice, practice, practice". Also check out Craftsy's website on quilting; they have several excellent videos for purchase that will again clarify and open up new avenues and ways to pursue this avenue of creativity. Check it out!
Comment by Pam/NY on March 6, 2013 at 5:05am Have a great time! Don't worry about making a mistake...our grandson works our computers like a wiz, because he doesn't know he could make a mistake. Relax and enjoy the experience!
