Quilt With Us

It seems like it's been forever since I posted on here.   Maybe some of you can identify with two children in school, their activities both church and school related...& then working full time, coming home and working some more... only to feel wiped out at the end of the night and just want to crash. (add to all of that--that I've been a single mother for the last 7 months)    I haven't been getting a lot of quilting done--but I do work on it whenever I can even if it's for just 5-10 min a day.  (I am currently hand quilting a twin size quilt)  For me it's therapy---my escape... it's what relaxes me at the end of my day.  Hope all is well with everyone!!  I hope to try to make regular stops to check in!  Take care!

Renae...welcome back!  Oh how I wish I had those days back! (NOT!)  Mine are all grown and have given me wonderful grandchildren.  Now I get to do all those fun things and not be the "bad guy" too!  I was also a single mom for many years so I know how difficult that can be.  Remember that all things change and whatever is not good will be different soon.  Change is one thing we can count on.  Keep on sewing!  It is my "therapy" also....don't know how I would make it without my quilting.

You gals are all great!  Thank you for your comments!   I've been working on a floral quilt for my best friend's Bed & Breakfast she is opening this spring.. and the other is for a friend of mine who is expecting baby #2 in April.  I have known this friend all her life and ironically--I picked the same colors for the quilt--that are what my friend is putting in her little girl's room! (and we hadn't even talked about the baby's room)  I guess it was a gut feeling I had--knowing Amy all her life like I do... Feels good, enjoying the stitching.  Every little bit helps!  I will do my best to stay better in touch!  You are all awesome!! :)

I remember (vaguely) those days. "My time" started with their bedtime. I handquilted and I counted holding the quilt on my lap without taking a stitch as handquilting on some nights. So soothing to know the kids were in bed and I had fabric to hold. One of my kids was the "Mom???" kid. He must have had a radar to tell him when I actually sat down after tucking him in--"Mom????" would come the call. I'd put the quilt down and go answer questions about monsters, fire, what's under the bed, give him a kiss and go back to my project. One night after several calls the voice was pained--during our most recent hug and goodnight, the needle transferred from my storage area (aka chest) and into his pj's. Bad mom. Have fun!

These kid years fly by...there will come a day, all too soon, that you wish you had them back...catch sewing when you can, it's not going anywhere. Try to stay in touch as much as possible!

I consider my sewing to be therapy too but, Renae, if I were you I wouldn't be able to stay awake for therapy!

This too will pass.  Enjoy all those kid activities while you can!

Welcome back.  Hand Quilting...wow, you're brave.  But, like you said, therapy.  Can't wait to see it when you're done.

Oh, I hear you, Renae! My sister calls this stage of motherhood "the tired years." She's past it now, but I'm still there. Glad you're still hand quilting -- it really is relaxing.

Welcome back - we're glad you're here too. :-)

Nice to have you back Renae,   It's very hard juggling, family, home and a full time job single handed.  I'm glad your finding tid-bits of time to work on your quilting projects.  My prayers go out to you.
