Quilt With Us

I just thought you all might like to hear a short story of something that happens to me all the time!  I was fabric shopping today in a local fabric shop.  This time I was looking for new curtain fabric instead of quilting fabric, but as usual I mosied (this is a Texas word, not found in the dictionary) on over to the quilt fabrics anyway.  There was another lady there also looking at every bolt of fabric and shaking her head.  She looked at me and said, "I just can't find the right colors and prints to go together."  Does this sound familiar ladies and gents?  We began talking.  She and I were about the same age, both had several kids and more grandkids.  She beat me on the great-grandkids though, she has 7 and I only have 1.  She is also a quilter.  Imagine that.  Well we talked for almost an hour, like we were long lost friends and we had never seen each other before.  We even commented that this always happens when we are looking for fabric and meet another quilter.  We said our goodbyes and left, feeling like we had found a new "Sister".  Has this ever happened to you???

One of the best parts of fabric shopping is meeting and sharing stories with new "friends".

There are so many truly nice people in the world.

All the time! I'm usually a quiet, non-intrusive kind of person. Not in a quilt shop. I offer opinions--if they don't ask, I offer anyway. I think there is something in the fabric sizing that is both addictive and personality changing.

Great story Carole, Yesterday in the grocery store I spoke to a woman who I thought was someone else.  I always mistake this women with another woman.  We had a great conversation while we shopped in the produce department.

I actually feel like anyone in a fabric shop is already a soul mate, somebody who is like an old friend. Same thing happens to me in music stores. Common bonds are wonderful.

I can say it does happen quite frequently, but not as extensively as your wonderful encounter!  I don't remember any of mine lasting for an hour, but I can say that I always end up feeling so good when it does happen.

That has happened to me many times as well.  My DH said it is like quilters have a built in magnet that just attracts other quilters.

What a great story, Carol!  Very heartwarming.  I'm so glad you shared.  And so glad you  met a new friend.

Sometimes I just can't decide on one fabric or another and ask a complete stranger for his/her opinion. We usually end up conversing just like you did.

Many times...it is the highlight of fabric shopping. I've even picked out fabrics for people I just met! A common "thread"! lol
