Hi all! Hope you didn't fall down when you saw a post from me. Yes, it has been a while.
This has been a year of change. In the summer we learned that the lodges (where we work) were going up for sale, either all together, which would mean a business deal, or individually for personal use. That left us a bit up in the air. With some other things that have gone on we felt it was time for a change for us. We did a lot of praying and talking and both felt we were being led to a different service. So... the first week of November was our last with the Retreat. We then took a week off and headed to the Oregon Coast for an awesome 3 nights on the beach. The weather could not have been more perfect! When we came back we started serving at the Flying H Youth Ranch. The house we've lived in these 4+ years is on the Ranch property and with the changes in the Retreat it is now a Ranch house. That means, at least for now, we do not have to move. Hooray hooray. We are serving as hopefully soon to be full time volunteers.... which qualifies us for the house... unless they get more full time staff than they have houses for. if/when that occurs we'd have to move. Thankfully we'd have 9-12 months notice. We are praying we can stay here for many years. Our heart is really with this ministry.
The Ranch is for troubled boys/young men ages 14-18. They come for about 18 months (some stay longer) and get schooling, mentoring, and the gospel. Currently we have 13 here, with two more coming in January. I'm working in the office and DH is doing maintenance and supervising/leading work crews a couple days a week.
As nice as it would be to be full time, we just don't have that kind of energy. It would mean DH would have to put in 40 hours/weekly and do some overnight monitoring of the boys. He's pushing 70 and just does not have that kind of energy.
We both love living here and now working for this awesome ministry. All the workers are missionaries, getting their own support. This helps keep the cost to the families who send their sons here to a much lower rate as they are not paying for the salaries on top of the lodging, etc that their fees cover. I have more free time than I've had since we moved here... so hopefully I can get more sewing/quilting done now.
I moved my sewing room from upstairs to the room on the main level where my office was. I LOVE it! It is a smaller space, but everything I wanted/needed in it fits and not overly crowded. I'll add some pics of it so you can see it.
I did get a quilt for Miss Bailey made. She is 7 now (8 in February) and tall... wearing size 14 now! I also made some aprons for Christmas gifts and potholders out of denim jeans, using the pockets of the jeans. I've done a few art pieces too.
I helped lead the making of our women's club raffle quilt for 2018. That was a big project, but it was nice as about 6 of us got together throughout the year to do different steps on it. It is now ready to be quilted. It is a cabin in the woods style quilt.
I won't promise how often I'll be on here, but I will try to be a bit more frequent. In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.
Okay... here are some pics. Enjoy
