Quilt With Us

Good morning! It's impossible, but true, this is the last day of November. How did that happen? I've been running around like a crazy person. Of course, since I'm a crazy person, that's not exactly a news item. LOL
My husband left yesterday morning for an out of state funeral and I spent the whole day playing in my sewing room. I painted on fabric for a while but didn't like the way that was looking so put it away. I'm trying to design a challenge quilt and the fabrics are not speaking to me.

So then I pulled out the "Ladies of the Sea" pattern that darn Riley told me about. I cut background fabric and found my applique supplies. Made templates for a couple of leaves and pomegranates that will show up in the block and later in the border. I'm not ready to applique yet but am getting set up.

Here's a tip--take a photocopy of the motif, if you'll need to make several of them (the motif) and then put a piece of peel and stick laminating sheet plastic over it and cut out motif to make template. If you want a thicker template--just stick a layer on the back too, making your paper the center of the sandwich. I use JM Laminating Sheets--9"X12"--a package of 10 sheets lasts quite a while and is inexpensive. In my little town, WalMart is the only place to find this product. It's in the office supplies.

Then I finished a couple of log cabin blocks for a guild project.

Then I quilted on the wedding quilt.

Then I staggered off to bed, full of Thanksgiving turkey--fingers raw, half-blind, totally happy.

Back to work today--my publisher is getting the books shipped but right now the bookstore systems have sort of eliminated it--because it's between release and available. ARGH! So when people search, the large print version coming in February is the one that pops up. ARGH! I know it will all be straightened up in a few days but ARGH.

Have some fun today.

Wow! You sure had a full day. Your last day of November went out with a bang. Love the template idea. I laminate important quilting pages so I can keep them nice with lots of handling. Never thought of doing fabric for the template. Here's a tip on fabric printing. I've opened one of my photos(usually a landscape) and played around with it...stretching it, adding brush strockes, changing tint, turning it into a Monet so to speak and then print it on fabric sheets and make my own fabric. If you don't need a lot this may help finding that special piece.
Sorry to hear about your book shipping troubles. Hang in there, things always seem to work themselves out.

PS: I forgot to tell you that I also have another wonderful pattern you might be interested in getting? This one comes in book form as well a a CD (the CD was released after I bought the book several years ago) that I have just received.(CD, that is)
We might work on it to rest up from the rigors of this "Ship" applique?
"Little Brown Bird" by Margaret Docherty & it is a wonderful quilt!

Shiley loves to read an I've sent Barbara my addess. I didn't respond quite as soon as I should have because my 88 year old mother had a pacemaker put in on Wednesday and came to stay with me until Sunday. I forgot to check my e-mail for several days with the trip to the ER and all the extra things that happened. Things are beginning to get back to normal, I think. Got to decorate for a party next Tuesday now. I will find time to read sometime after the second party on the 15th. Love this time of year. Shirley

Sounds like you are suffering from lack of chocolate. I'm sure all will be better once you get some into your system! LOL

Barb, just for the record, it's my understanding... that Shirley doesn't know how to read...therefore wants to forfeit the books to me!!! lol Don't you wish... that just once something would go according to the way it should? Hope you get the bookstore systems straightened out soon...it's the holiday shopping season!!!
