Quilt With Us

I have a goal. I want to get a cat themed quilt done in time for next January. I know some of you girls think that is a laugh because you are so speedy and can get things done so quickly but I am a newbie and have not yet started sewing on my quilt. It is really only a wall hanging but it seems so big to me. There will be a quilt show at the cat museum in Alliance next year at this time and that is when I want to have it done. Someday I will look back on this and laugh but right now it seems so lofty of a goal. Wish me luck!

I'm certainly not going to laugh!  I have a Christmas wallhanging started (I actually don't remember how many years ago) that needs to be finished. Every year I look at it and for some reason find every excuse in the world to work on something else.  We all do it.  Take it a little at a time and don't get discouraged.

The whole picture can sometimes be overwhelming, but when you break it down into small parts, it isn't too bad.  Often when we look at a quilt we can't imagine how they did it, it looks for difficult, but when we look closer and get it down to the individual block we see that most are not that hard. So my friend, a step at a time. I'm sure you'll meet your goal and be very pleased with your accomplishment. Be sure to post pictures and ask questions... you have a huge cheering squad here.

No laughing from over here either.  Somewhere in my stuff I have a design I made for a cat quilt that's been lying around for a couple years now.  My oldest daughter went gaga when I showed her the design but even that didn't get me motivated to work on it.  And I don't think planning a year ahead is off the ranch.  Whatever means you can find to inspire yourself and to keep going on your project are, to me, the most vital tools you have.  Without them you don't have any quilts!  I know!  Just look at my page and you will see one quilt, that's right, uno, solemente!

I wish you luck and I'm not laughing!!!  I have very few completed quilts to my name, and I've been enjoying this site for a few years now.  So I admire and respect your goal cinderella.  You will do it!

You can do it!

Goals are good, and as some others have said, some of us work better with a deadline -- a real one, like a quilt show, rather than one arbitrarily decided upon.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Um..I'm a little curious; what is the "cat museum" you mention?

I made one cat quilt for my daughter. It was a slow process because I wanted only cat fabric. Now I know a few fabric stores that really sell cat fabric. The pattern was also very different, light on one side and dark on the other side. Check back in each month with how you are doing and if you need help with any issues like fabric.

Setting goal is a good thing -- even a deadline can be a good thing.  Last year when I was on the Scrap Squad (Quiltmaker Magazine) I got so much done because I knew I'd be getting an email asking for pictures.....since my term on the squad is over, I find myself doing so many other things.  Not necessarily bad but I've got to get in gear!

Long term goals are great.  I have long term goals but procrastinate until I only have a few weeks left to get the job done.  Don't follow my lead.  It's my guess when you start it you won't be able to stop so by Jan. next year you will have a whole bunch of stuff to show us.  You Go Girl.........
