Quilt With Us

I really have to limit my time on Craigslist because every time I go on I see lovely vintage sewing machines that call my name.  I picked up another one yesterday, purchased from a young man who said his grandmother owned it.  I asked him what his grandmothers name was...Gertrude. So now this machine will carry her name.  My husband has oiled her for me and she runs smoothly...I haven't sewed with her yet.

Gertrude is really special...she's hidden in a cabinet like I've not seen before...let me just show you the pictures.

I put it in my living room...because she is so nicely self-contained.  A chair is hidden in her...with a back. I plan to piece while still spending time with hubby.

and a drawer for supplies!

She looks great too! and has one of the first embroidery modules attached to her.

I found lots of goodies in the drawer too, but check out the scissors! They're pretty serious shears. The red ones are normal size scissors.

The cones I'm throwing out...too old. The thimble is hysterical! Gertrude had a sense of humor, and she bought all the attachments that don't look touched.  She also left me the manual and catalog for parts.  I think that Necchi is still manufacturing sewing machines...although I haven't really researched thoroughly. Anyone know?

Fabulous find!  Love the storage/chair cabinet.  Yes, Necchi still manufactures machines; my DS bought one in the last couple years from our local sewing machine/vacuum cleaner repair man, John.  John says Necchi is the best machine on the market these days.  He is a fabulous repair man and knows his stuff.  He doesn't believe in computers so still does all his billing, etc by hand.  Hope he never retires.

That is a great find.  I have never seen a cabinet like that either.  Seems like a very practical idea.  Enjoy Gertrude!  She looks lightly used and ready for some fun.

That's a real neat machine and cabinet. I love the thimble!!!! You really did find a great deal.  You'll have to let us know how Gertrude sews. Can't imagine finding one like that.

Very nice. The cabinet is a sewing station that's pretty neat.  I have never seen one like it.  I'm anxious to hear how she works.  How many machines have you collected?
