Quilt With Us

I see we have a new chat format.  I fiddled around with it this morning but like everything else thats new and different, it takes awhile to get used to it.  I wish it would just show the names of people who want to chat instead of posting all the names that are online.

It's a cold day here in the East but to be this long into Winter with no snow on the ground is amazing.  However this morning the weather forcast is for a Wintery mix coming our way.  Good weather to cuddle up to the "feeddogs and enjoy a day of creating something special.  I haven't actually made anything since before Christmas.  I'm trying to get caught up on alterations and some of it is down right frustrating.  I'm working on a jacket that goes over a dress and it's giving me fits.  Taking it down from an 18W to about a 14.  I would rather have made it from scratch.  It would be much easier.

Have a great day

That is exactly why I told my DSIL if she wanted those pants shortened she could get a needle and thread and come over to my house and I would show her how to hem them.  I don't do alterations for myself much less for someone else.  It is tedious and nerve-wracking.   You are a better woman than most anyone I know.

Right now we are having mild weather too, but by tonight that is supposed to change.  Good thing we don't have to go anywhere for the next few days so I think I'll cuddle up with my feed dogs too!   I too admire anyone who can do alterations.  One of the reasons I never cared for sewing before I learned to quilt is because I could never find patterns that fit me exactly right.  If I had known how to do alterations that probably wouldn't have been the case.

Love the vision of cuddling up to the feeddogs...

Good morning, Irene!  You mentioned in a prior blog about going online to find hand stitching instructiosn or something like that?  And now you love it?  Applique?  Would you mind sharing that website.  I love the look of applique projects, but hate hand stitching!  :)

I admire those who can do alterations, Irene.  I can take care of basic fixes, but not true alterations.  I wouldn't even want to begin, but I have great respect for those who can.  I'm just sure people who do alterations are never paid enough for the work, time, sweat & aggravation involved.  :)

Yes, I find that some things would be easier to make from scratch. With my custom sewing business and tarp shop it is amazing what people want you to sew. Sometimes I just scratch my head and go ahead and make it. LOL Been doing a lot for the oilfield right now. 25' x 40' tarps with lots of buckles. I have a few quilts on the go that I need to finish. This weekend I will be going to help my daughter make a bed skirt for their new bed. We have been having a mild winter so far. 13C above......but today is a little colder.

I can't imagine doing alterations now days. It's hard enough to quilt for someone. I agree, easier to make from scratch...we are getting freezing rain tonight...so it's over! lol
