Quilt With Us

Recently we had a flag kit for sale, that required quite a lot of curved piecing. We've had so many questions about this technique, that Sharla and I put together a quick video to demonstrate. Hope this helps!

Wow---a great job de-mystifiying double curved piecing. I wonder if fabric glue would make it less cumbersome? Thanks for a great video, once again you have helped with a wonderful visual.

Linda, you're right, the instructions are phrased very oddly. I'm SO sorry! Sharla and I both read and reread them and didn't understand the wording, which is why we did the video. The designer that wrote this pattern is no longer here and we'll definitely rewrite it if we ever kit this pattern again.

Basting is a great solution, but yes, it would add a lot more time. The blunt corner on one piece should just fall into the curve of it's opposite piece. It looks like you did figure it out based on how many you have done!

I don't know how to edit that comment to add the rest of my question, so I'll post it here. Instruction 5 says that the blunt tip of one flag shape should be flush with the short side of the other shape. It seemed to me that it meant I needed to make that blunt tip rotate to the side, as you can see in my picture - instead of pinning the sides together straight as in the video. This took more pinning and it's why I basted first before sewing.
It did seem to turn out ok doing it this way - I'll post a picture below of my first row, but it doesn't look any different than the results in your video and it is making it harder to do.
Here is my first row:

OK I checked out the video and it's very helpful. But I'm going to try and post a picture here of one thing in the instructions that confused me.

Oh thank you, thank you. I've been working on this kit and want to get it done for my nephew who just moved into his first house. I have had to baste every one of these little tiny curves and so it's slow going. I'll take a peek at this video and see if it helps.

Sorry Aida - it's been gone for a bit.

CT must have run out of the flag kit - I wanted to get one 'cause DH liked it, and didn't find it on the web. (sob...)

What's this? I thought you were suppose to be taking it easy and relaxing. I am going to check out your video before the day is done though. Take care!
