I reviewed Seasons and Reasons to Celebrate
for the website. Like Teri, I love snowmen and have a little collection I love to get out every year. I fell in love with this Snowmen wall hanging. Like Teri, I love snowmen and have a little collection I love to get out every year. Cute, sassy snowmen all stacked up to herald the coming snow. These snowmen had so much personality, I couldn’t resist. I knew right away that they would be hanging around my house this holiday season. So, when this book became one of the featured books for Gifty, I jumped at the chance to do them. (A little insurance I would get them done, having a deadline and all.) Now if you remember two weeks ago I showed my first applique project, this is my second applique project. And what is my point…. You CAN do it! The snowmen are all one applique piece and with a little embroidery, these snowmen come to life! Add your borders, just a little quilting and you’re done. The whole project took less time than I anticipated, but then I like to watch my favorite Jane Austen movies while embroidering, which makes time fly for me.
There was one small little problem with the pattern in the book. The instructions for the hanging tabs are incorrect. The cutting instructions do not match the sewing instructions. So, here is what I did. After a lot of looking at the sample in the book and looking at my buttons, I decided that a 2 ½” wide tab would look best. I cut 6 strips 3” x 9 ½” then followed the sewing directions in the book. What I wish I had done is sewn the raw edge of my tabs in when I sewed the binding on (like what you do for a hanging sleeve) and then after the binding was completely finished; then I would have folded the hanging tabs over and sew on the buttons to create the tab.
