Ok quilting and sewing friends! I'm taking a poll! My hubs has agreed to purchase me a new sewing machine!!! He already gets Husband of the Year award so now I guess I need to make a statue in the park! :) Anyway, I currently have a Brother Innovis-80 that I LOVE!!! I really love the way this machine works, runs, etc. I don't plan on selling it....yet. In the meantime, it is a great machine for smaller projects BUT to FMQ or decorative stitches for that matter, it is impossible. The throat is too small to move a quilt in and around, rolling just doesn't work. It's really short and the decorative stitches are not consistent at all. I don't use them much but since they are on the machine, it would be nice to have. I'd use them more often if the length of them and lining up of them were consistent and good.
SO! I'm not sure what direction to go in. I don't want to pay someone to finish it, I want to do it myself. I can't afford to pay someone anyway for everytime I will make a quilt or wall-hanging...fabric is expensive enough. I'm not a great hand-quilter...not a great machine quilter either...yet but I'd like to be and as with anything, practice practice practice will get me better.
Here's your chance to tell me what you use at home! Please tell me the Pros/Cons and what you would do differently in purchasing a machine. I promise I won't tell your machine on you if you mention something less than favorable about her! ;) Your secret is safe with me!
I have looked at some Janome's but I don't like our local dealer....therefore dealing with them in the future for any issues, needs, etc would not be my choice. I looked at a Pfaff (really like the Pfaff) 1.5 and 3.0 and the 4.0. Awesome!!!! Lots of $$$ though...EEEK! I also looked at the Gracie long arm collection that comes with a Juki. This could work for me as I could use my Brother to make the tops and for smaller projects and then use this for Free-motion finishing. I have the room.
ACK! This will be my magnum opus for purchase and whatever I end up with is going to have to last me until either it or I die.
I really like the idea of the Pfaff's because they will do regular sewing plus the 4.0 will do embroidery which would be cool to have the option for. I just don't want to buy something that is more than I really need. You know, kind of like going onto a car lot and knowing you need a mini-van but falling in love with the little shiny BMW convertible down the isle. *sigh*
So, I like a drop in bobbin and a larger throat area for FMQ....recommendations? I'm excited to see what you all have! Post a pic if you've got one! Just tell your machine she's posing for machine of the year and to give her best smile, after all, if she is loved by you then that is all that matters! Thanks in advance!!
