Quilt With Us

Oh my gosh.. I need to get sewing. I have been busy getting things organzied that have needed to be done for over a year... and getting the house cleaning bedding set up for 3 beds.. I have company coming for the 4th.

Any ideas on some fun 4th food.. I would love to so something RED WHITE & BLUE.. but any thing would help... I should go shopping soon lol... since our little town is already filling up with people.

I promise I will get to quilting talk soon. I think what I have decided to do is dig out the quilt I started in my beginner class 2.5 years ago and get it done... I dont think there is a lot to do. Yikes.. wish me luck.

Pam, I'm going to try you chicken salad reciepe but I think I'll make greek rice to go in it. I made some the other day and love it cold. to make 6 cups of rice in my rice cooker I used 3 cups of long grained rice that I had washed and soaked for an hour. I then gave it one final rince and for ever cup of raw rice added 1 1/2 cups of water (you can use chicken broth). I added aboud 4 - 5 table spoons of chicken oxo powder ( buy it a costo in a tub), 3/4 garlic powder, 1/2 cup of lemon juice and tablespoon of olive oil. I also added black peper but it can be left out. Had to fight the kids off to get my share. Packed some lunch next day and was too busy to heat it up, it was nice and refreshing cold.

Hey, don't forget the old standby.....Jello. You can make the white by putting whipped cream over the top. My aunt has a pretzel, cream cheese, jello combo that is really yummy! Decorate with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream....yum oh!

Wow - lots of great ideas for you. You better be careful or we'll all be coming over to eat! LOL The paper today had a watermelon bowl cut out to look like a hedgehog. It had the chunks of watermelon in it with toothpicks to look like the spines. Really cute. Not 4th of July-ish other than watermelon is often served. Someone metioned kabobs; fruit kabobs are fun too.

Good luck and post a pic for us to see. As for the bbq, they are so many things that just use a little thought, like a simple yellow sheet cake and decorate with a white icing and blueberries for blue stars and strawberry slices or raspberries for the red stripes. You can make a yellow (13X9) cake and poke holes and pour red and/or blue jello over and cover it with a cool whip icing.
