Quilt With Us

Well girls it has been awhile!!!  I haven't blogged since last August, I have checked in a few times but these babies (dogs) of mine keep me busy, (cuddling, snuggling, kisses, etc)  We even had a new fence put in so I could keep two of the puppies which are now 6 months old.  I just had Sophie spayed and chipped a little over a wk ago and one by one we will get them neutered and spayed.  The good thing is they don't mind if I sew, they have beds all over the house so when I come to the sewing room they come too!!  If they can get hold of a piece of my fabric, they think they have hit gold, and off they go!!!!  Tug of war is one of their favorite games.

I did make 5 quilts this fall, 4 of which I posted on my page.  My goal is to make many more this year, using easier patterns. I have several people I haven't given quilts to yet and they have been waiting a long time.  Now is the time to get those done.  I gave one of the ones I made for me the other day to my SIL.  She has dementia, (not sure how to spell the other word) and stays cold all the time.  It has a good flannel backing and should keep her warm.  She will be leaving home before long to stay at an assisted living facility.  It breaks our hearts.  I know so many of you have gone through this or are still walking down this road with a love one.  I am so glad she gets so excited when she sees me because I will be able to help my brother as we all draw together to walk this walk with her.

One of the reasons I am writing is I have a vest that I bought during mine and dh's dancing days, when we taught country western dancing.  It is a gorgeous vest and was hand made.  The girl wanted $350.00 for it but sold it to me for $75.00 it is a one of a kind.  I would like to make a crazy quilt or wall hanging out of it.  I would appreciate any ideas you may have.  I got it at a little shop in "Bell Buckle" Tennessee which is close to Shelbyville, which is known for their Walking horse's.  It is just too beautiful to not do something with it.

HI Linda, the vest is beautiful and I really like the suggestion to have it framed by a professional. It would make a wonderful conversation piece and reminder of your days on the dance floor.

Hi, Linda Sue!  Have also missed you and wondered how the puppies were doing.  I don't remember how many there were to begin with, but did you keep them all?  No wonder you have been kept busy!

I concur with the previous advice you've been given, and like the crazy-quilt idea.

ps. Don't worry about the spelling; just take a stab at it!  We'll know what you mean.  This is such a nice site.  We never correct each other's spelling or typos!

I love all the ideas, especially the one you shared Debbie about having it framed by a professional framer. I hadn't thought of that.  I wish I still had all my c/western clothes Pam. Your idea is a great one but I sold all of them in a garage sale.  I only have 2 pair of boots left, sold the rest of them too but since my fall I wouldn't be able to wear them now.

Thanks Barbara.  I will have to post some pictures soon of the babies.  They're rotten!!!! smile......

I missed you. I'm glad you're back with more great dog stories! The vest is gorgeous--and I think you've already gotten good advice.

Hey Linda Sue... How have you been lately.  Are you all healed up?  I've been out of the loop for most of last year.  I say go with it...medallion at center like Debra said and crazy quilt away until you get it as big as you'd like.  I too like the wall hanger idea or get it the whole vest framed by a professional framer and have a piece of your history to pass down to the kids, GK's, and great GGK's.  Can you hear them telling people that their Great, Great Grandma taught country dancing 100 years from now?  (my hubby has some signed football jerseys hung and I have to say they look GREAT.  He really enjoys them.

Hey lady...good to see you post! What a wonderful keepsake! She really put a lot of hand beading into it. I'm guessing you must have many more items from your days of boot stomping fun. Would a collage wall hanging or quilt work. This could be the appliqued centerpiece and work around it with other appliqued items. I think something like this is better hung. You can appreciate all the work in it better than a lying down angle.

I am thinking a small wall hanging with the round medallion at the center. The lining could be used as sashing or border. May have to add a few fabrics to make it work.
