Quilt With Us

Riley Lane passed away on January 4, 2011, in Odessa, TX.  It is with great sadness that I relay this message.  We'd exchanged private email messages where I learned her "real" name and hometown area.  Since it had been some time since anyone had heard from her, including me, I ran a search and came across her obituary.  I didn't post it sooner, mainly because I wanted to make sure I didn't report someone's death by mistake (horror!), but mainly because I was in denial.  I am certain now, so will share.

Her name was Elaine Riley Woodley and she was known on QWU as Riley Lane and on other quilting forums as Lady Texas.

If you'd like to sign her memorial guest book, here is the link:

It will be up until the first week of February.

I, for one, will deeply miss her.  Funny how we can love someone we've never seen face to face.  She shared her heart with us, bits of her life, humor, country wisdom, and her incredible quilt making expertise.

Miss Riley, I'll be looking for you when I get to Heaven.  Hold a place for me 'round the quilt frame there.  PQ

Thank you for telling us. I have been away from the board quite a bit and was hoping I was just missing her posts. She was such a sweetheart! I Love you Miss Riley!

Thank you Prairie Quilter for letting us know.  I always loved reading Riley's posts as well as seeing her beautiful handwork.

I always believe that when someone we care for passes away, it's because God needs more angels to help him. We now have another angel in heaven lovingly looking down upon us quilters.  Miss Riley - you are a true inspiration.

Thank you for this info. I am truly saddened. I always enjoyed chatting with her here on QWU and reading her posts. She was a special lady and will be missed.

Very sad news, indeed.  Even not being on QWU very much over the past months I felt an emptiness.  There are a good handful of ladies that started strong on this site a year ago and as I go through my friends list I wonder about all those that don't post anymore.  Miss Riley is in a better place although we will all miss her.  Thanks for taking the time PQ and letting us know.

I just went to Ms. Riley's page, and there are some wonderful comments people have left there.  I wonder if someone at CT can forward them so that her family can see them.  I've asked Melissa for a friend request so that I could send this message to her, but I don't know how long that will take.  Just a thought.  I'm sure her family would love to see those wonderful comments and know how much she's missed and loved by people she didn't even know.

PrairieQuilter, thank you so much for conveying this very sad news.  We rarely have the chance for closure here on QWU when folks disappear.  I will miss her!
