Quilt With Us

I went online to check out quilt classes at the local quilt shop....it has been a longgggg time since I have taken a class. They want $65 for a two hour class plus the cost of pattern and fabric. This is by a licensed instructor...what does that mean??? Is that the going cost now? Geez...

I'm with you on the Winging it class.  I've yet to follow a pattern from, anywhere.  I went to the local fabric store the other day and discovered that the price of fabric is now an average of $12 to $13 a yard.  It's a good thing I have tons of material to use up already.

If you find that class, Pam, call me!  I'm in!

I’m just a basic quilter who seems to wander away from patterns. I need the class called...winging it! With wine, chocolate, and 70’s cds!

The fee sounds high for a two hour class!  I don't take classes any longer, nor do I purchase fabric unless I really need a piece and try to purchase from the sale section.  It just seems like everything related to quilting is over-priced!  I believe a licensed instructor is a teacher trained using the specialty rulers.   If I have a question about rulers I will ask for help at a Guild meeting.  I am trying to sew up my fabric.  My inspiration comes from magazines, show and tell at the Guild meeting and quilt shows.  I also follow Bonnie Hunter's blog, the photos from each class, including the show and tell segment, are very inspirational!  I volunteer to help new quilters get started, will teach the basics and share fabric so they can spend money on good rulers, rotary cutters and mats.  I often think about what it was like to quilt 75 years ago, such beautiful quilts with basically making do, compared to the amount of fabric/supplies available today!

That does seem pricey for a two hour class.  But, I know I'm behind the times on what things cost.  Still, not including the pattern or fabric?  Ouch.  Then again, isn't it said that it is the things in life that we don't do that we have the most regrets about later?

I agree Barb

Wow! It seems steep to me. I think you should at least get the pattern or a full day class.

The fun factor may play a part in  your decision, but the cost would be a deterrent for me...A 2-hour class?  I'd have to REALLY want to make the project.

Connie...that is stunning! Just beautiful! Now, you have made me rethink my decision.
