Quilt With Us

I've been wanting an oversized ironing board for my quilting.  DH recently made this one for me.  It is a 22" x 62" plywood board covered with one layer of leftover scraps of a cotton batt (warm & natural) covered by a heavier cotton pillow ticking fabric.  I LOVE IT!  I does take up quite a bit of space in my small, slightly messy (snicker), basement quilting corner, but it works.  (See my little yellow space heater?  It's my best friend down there in the winter.)

Here's the underside.  The board fits over my existing ironing board.  The furring strips keep the long board secure.

WOW....it looks wonderful and cute too....I love the red and white (candy cane like) stripes, very refreshing.  Can your hubby make me one too?  hehe

Looks great PQ!  .  I love your ticking fabric.  DH made mine awhile back, only it is a bit shorter than yours

The furring strips are just screwed on from the top side down.  He used a countersink bit so the screw heads were flush with the top.

How did your husband attach the furring strips?  Did he just use glue or nails too?  I have plans to make one along with a larger cutting table.

I covered and padded 2 board that each fold in half. I place them on top of our pool table and voila I have a 4 x 8 padded table. I put my cutting mat at one end and have the other end to iron on. Sure going to miss it when we sell the pool table.

Wonderful board, esp. the strips to keep it centered!!!

This is surely a superb idea!  I've been asking my DH to cut me a board about 24" by "48" so I could make an ironing top and he keeps asking why.  I muttered to myself "Make it four and you'll be in it."

Oh, I wish I had married a carpenter!  Actually my beloved FIL was a carpenter, but he somehow didn't pass his skills on to his son, who is a fisheries biologist.  I guess I'm with Barbara; jealous, jealous.
