Quilt With Us

As part of my commitment to finishing older UFOs, I looked through the drawers of an entertainment center I have in my sewing room to see what I could find that could be finished fairly quickly.  This was a New Year's Eve mystery from 2003 & was supposed to be 4 placemats with a log cabin block on one end & a plain block with an appliqued daisy in a flower pot on the other.  I had only made the 4 log cabin blocks so I decided to make 4 more log cabin blocks plus put a plain block in the center with a machine embroidered butterfly in the center for a wallhanging instead.  It wasn't until after I had it all quilted, bound & washed before I realized it left a pretty big triangle in the center due to the way I had laid out the blocks.  But the more I look at it, the more I like the asymmetrical look of it.  I am trying to get out of the rut of making everyone symmetrical and too matchy matchy.  Once I get the hanging sleeve & label stitched on, it will hang over my bed.

Thanks handstitcher.  I think all of us have had the experience of working on a top from start to finish including quilting it & then discovering one block turned the wrong way or some other weird thing.  It feels really good to be finishing some of these older projects.  I know a lot of people like to have lots of fabric on hand, but I'm finding it is starting to cause me anxiety so I am on a mission to finish these tops & actually enjoy them rather than keep them hidden in a drawer.

Love it, Janet! Isn't it funny how you can look at a quilt all along as you're making it and then see something else once it's done?! Happened to me before, too. But the blank space gives your butterfly room to flit around a bit. I continue to be amazed as you work through your UFOs!

I like it. I have always been one of those who thinks everything has to be matched. But this is truly a pretty quilt.

Wow!  Beautiful!  Gee, if that's what you do with your UFO's, I would be happy to supply a few more.
