Quilt With Us

Happy Friday! I just received my CT order yesterday (and my new Juki machine - what a great day!) and I ordered the Indigos Around kit. One of the cutting instructions says "fussy cut" and I haven't a clue what that means! Can someone shed some light on this for me? I understand "scant 1/4 inch" but have never heard about a fussy cut. I'm already fussy enough - LOL! Thanks, Kristine

I'm new to the site and just saw your "fussy cut" question from early April. I'm sure you've learned all about it by now. I'm working on a train wallhanging for my brother for Christmas. I fussy cut the train fabric and now have a piece of "swiss cheese" fabric left! But the trains came out so nice. Will post a picture on my site closer to Christmas. The quilt will take me a while! Have to do my charity quilts in between my own projects. Carolyn

Paulette described it just right--I'll just add, you can make a template or of use a clear ruler to "see" what you've got in your piece--do remember the 1/4", I didn't once and ended up with footless animals.

Thank you, Paulette, I can see what that means for this particular fabric now!

Fussy cutting is when you cut certain things out of a fabric. Say, there are different cats in a fabric, you would cut your square or circle around each one of them. I did fussy cutting for my Halloween quilts because I wanted different Halloween cats and, also the witches. You can look at my Halloween quilts but I do not think that you can tell from the picture. Maybe someone else will have an example on here.

Sincerely, Paulette
