Quilt With Us

Now here's a story.  Last Sunday I was out in the new house cleaning up for the floor to start Monday.  This pair of wrens would not stay out of the house and I had to constantly shoo them out a door.  Eventually I discovered they were building a nest in a hole in the drywall where a speaker control will go.  I felt so bad that I had to take their hard work away but I dug out all the leaves and grass several times over a couple of days because they just kept building.  Well, this morning I went out to talk to my builder who is installing quarter round and he said, oh, I had to chase a bird out of here this morning.  I immediately went to the hole and sure enough this is what I found.  It broke my heart for those little birds.  Call me crazy, but if it were up to me, I would leave the window open until they hatched and left.  DH said absolutely not.

if you used leaves or something from outdoors to move it where your sent is not on it?  I dunno, looks like the eggs were moved already.  Oh well circle of life right?

Hate to be the bad new queen, but if you touch any bird nest, with the exception of blue jays, unless I am wrong, the parents will not come back if the eggs have been touched.  Sometimes even the nest.  It is worth trying to move it out doors, maybe close to where they came in.  I think the only reason blue jays will take babies back is they are so darn mean :-)  I love wildlife so hubby would have to deal.  I would have like some contraption built so the birds could get in and out with door closed, but then again, he would be the one to have to build it :-)

what a cute story. I agree with you but even after the eggs hatch it's awhile before the babies can fly away with her. So I guess your hubby has the more practical thinking. lol Us "mothers" are just old softies when it comes to "babies".

My DH just shook his head and mumbled something like "crazy women".  I probably would follow the same thing as you Paula.  Terry's idea is not bad  if you could find some scrap lumber and make  a shelf for their nest outside that window that they are using.

BTW. love the quilt square so don't give it to them.

They have good taste.  I would put a temporary platform outside the window they used and let them have the quilt block.

The bird knows a great house when she sees it!

Guess you better get a little replica birdhouse for the. I'm with you but know it wouldn't be practical to let them live with you.

I'm with you, but I know my DH would say the same as yours did.
