Quilt With Us

Hurricane Irene wrecked a bit of havok here on the pond in Maine ~ we lost power midday on Sunday and got it back on yesterday.  It was a challenge trying to keep the refrigerator running enough to keep from spoiling anything and luckily we have friends with an empty freezer to pop our stuff into!! I took my 'bath' in the pond ~ it was not tooooooo cold!! LOL!!

When you have no electricity, you realize how much you take it for granted! I couldn't do anything!  I thought I might do some cutting, but I couldn't press my fabric! So that was out! Certainly couldn't sew!  I did manage to get some reading done and a little bit of handwork, but that was all! I used my computer until the battery died then that was gone!

I am ever so grateful that the only thing we lost was power!  Our home is surrounded by tall trees and not a one came down! Just a few small branches and dead twigs!  The neighbor lost the top of his willow tree but it didn't hit his camp. Took a boat tour around the pond yesterday and many of our neighbors lost trees, but none appear to have landed on their homes.  Lots to be thankful for!

Many areas of New England suffered worse than we did.  Hopefully all will be restored soon. Let the healing begin!

That's a long time without power, bet you were wishing for a treadle machine!

Glad to hear your safe and sound. Going without power is very difficult! Glad things are finally getting back to normal for you.

Glad you weathered the storm pretty well. So many got hit so hard, and then all the roads and rails, etc. that were washed away and twisted. It will take a long time to recover from this one.

Barb, glad you are back and up and running.  It's a drag w/o electric.  I did some hand sewing too.  My biggest fear was not getting it back until the weekend but thankfully, we were up by Tuesday night.

Glad to hear you didn't have any damage. We got some storm and a tornadoe not far from us but lots of trees up rooted but not sure if it was from Irene or not.

We were in Maine this summer and had a beautiful time not long enough so hope one day to return. We were enroute to Newfoundland.

Good to know all is good with you.  Have you thought of purchasing a generator?  We live in an area where there are tall trees and once every few years, our power goes out for more than a few days.  The generator has saved us many dollars in groceries, etc.  Our house is wired like Pam/NY is and you just plug it in and turn on the switch!  All the major big box stores have them, and probably your local hardware stores as well!  Glad you all survived without too much damage!

Good to hear that you had no real damage. It is a pain when the power is out; but sounds like you did just fine. Glad you are safe and sound.

We bought a generator years ago and had our house wired. We just have to plug in and throw a switch. We are on a well...so when there's no electric...there's no water. I like swimming in cool water...but when you HAVE to do it, it can be cold! We are spoiled!!! lol

Glad you fared well during the storm. I agree about taking 'power' for granted. Really cramps your style when you want to do stuff that require it.
