Quilt With Us

I haven't posted here for awhile, mostly because I haven't been sewing much.  Partially because I've been super busy (playing and working and travel), but mostly because my sewing room was such a mess.  Now, I know you're thinking your room is a mess too, but this was bad.  Really bad.  Last Fall I went on two different quilting retreats, had a blast.  But when I returned, I just dumped everything into "the room".  Now this room was already bad, because it's much much smaller than my previous house.  This is a 10x10 spare bedroom, and in my previous house, it was the formal living room, at least 2x larger.  So this poor room was already stuffed to the gills, then I toss stuff in willy nilly.

And one of the disadvantages (?) of working for a quilting book publisher (Martingale, That Patchwork Place), is that I get a free copy of every new book.  Believe it or not, my poor bookshelf actually collapsed from all the weight!  So part of my task was to extract the poor smashed books from this broken shelf and regroup.

So I finally dedicated some time to it this weekend.  I'm happy to say I've weeded out some books, all donated or given to local friends, I've sorted them all by category and they're all ready to load onto the new bookshelves that will be in place tonight after work.

I've located my sewing machine (I knew it was under there somewhere!) AND my cutting table.  woohoo!!!!  AND, there is floor space!  AND a bit of wall space for my design wall (it never made it up since the move last June).

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.  I'll post pictures after it's all done.  I'm now sorting through drawers.  How many rotary cutters and seam rippers can one girl have?  I got rid of 3-4 of each, and still have more than I need!  I've organized all the thread, rulers and cutting supplies and ended up with 3 completely empty drawers!  Have about 8 more drawers to go.  But THEN I have to find a home for all the sewing/knitting related stuff I dumped in the guest room.  But now I'm confident I'll have logical space to put it all away....couldn't have made that claim last week.

Bottom line, if I want to sew, now I can.  Also couldn't make that claim last week.  And maybe sometime soon, I can have a guest overnight!

NIce to hear from you Karen.  If I ever sell this house I'll be in the same situation.  Right now my sewing room is in my living room.  When I move I'll be going into a senior apartment and the extra bedroom is 10'10" X 10' 7" and I'm dreading having to downsize my sewing space as I could use allot more as it is. One thing I will have at my disposal at the senior villiage is a large recreation hall that is available to all tenants when it's not in use. So I will be able to go there and do any large cutting jobs.  I would love to see pictures of your room once you have it the way you want it.

Karen, good to see you posting again. Sounds like 'your space' is ready for serious use. :-)  My sewing room is even smaller. It's the little extra guest room that gets turned into the grand kids room when our daughters visit. That means all my sewing stuff gets shuffled out into the laundry room and stacked. Of course then one of the daughters always wants me to sew something!

Karen it is sew good to hear from you again.  Sometimes when we let life get in our way things like that happen.  I am glad to know that you are weeding out your space and seeding someone elses space. lol  It is good to know that you will now be able to get back to sewing when the mood strikes you.  I hope it won't be as long till you come back and post/visit us.  I miss you.

Hah, isn't it amazing when you find the floor and then on top of it, find the sewing machine!  Good for you.  I have found my floor, and my sewing machine, all my fabric is put away in the proper place and I am getting projects ready for retreat!  Can't wait!  Nice to hear from you!
