Quilt With Us

Have you ever entered one of your quilts in a show?

I went to my first ever quilt show this past weekend. I loved it. One of my quilt guilds is having a quilt show this fall. They had asked me (along with everyone else) to make a quilt for the show. I am not sure if I am good enough to do a show. But after going to the show this last weekend, I kind of want to do it.

So my question is,, how do you choose what pattern to make for a show?  A really hard one, or easy one? One with lots of color or pretty colors?

HELP!!

You have the hard part figured out so now just have fun with it. I love walking around quilt shows and seeing the variety of quilts and getting ideas for color combinations and quilting styles. I always come away with lots of pictures for inspiration in the future.

HI Marilyn,

My husband is a military buff guy! LOL. I like history and ancestry. But I thought he might like that hanging in his "man cave". For the quilt I am going to use reproduction Civil War fabric. I hope I can get it done before Sept. Cross your fingers!

Wow, you are doing Cross Stitching of the Gettysburg , that is alot of work.

I'm so glad that you have decided to start a quilt to enter in a show. You mentioned that you want to make the quilt for your hubby, and that you wanted to use the "General's Wives" pattern. Does that mean that you  and your husband are interested in the Civil War?  My hubby is a big CW buff! Right now I am formulating an idea for a quilt for him using a printed panel of Generals' Grant and Lee. Want to use mostly dark blues and tans. Am also working on a cross stitch piece that features Gettysburg. I got the kit when we were there a couple yrs ago.

Let me know what you find for your quilt.  Nice to chat with a quilting pal from Illinois!

Thanks Ladies! I going to do it!!!LOL.  Now searching all my patterns and fabric for the right one!  OK , I am searching for that and for the General Wives' quilt pattern, I want to make it for my husband. But you can only buy it as the block of the month @ $25 each block and that is 13 blocks.. Ouch!!! My purse doesn't have that much to spare!. LOL.

I have an aunt who finished a quilt her Mother had started - she entered it in the County Fair and won a blue ribbon.  She was so surprised - she had never quilted before and only entered it to honor her Mother. So, even if only for the experience, I would certainly encourage you to enter a quilt.

Laura the only way to move on is to do what you....want.  The challenge is a good thing and you will learn a lot.  Every winner I've ever seen encourages others to do a show quilt.  It's not the just  winning it's and honor to have a quilt in a show win or not.  Go for it and have fun in the doing!

Enter a quilt.  My DH encouraged me to enter one of mine in a show and it was awesome.  My son's class went to the show and got to tell all of his classmates that his mommy made him the quilt that was hanging.  It was a really great experience.  Who knows you might even win something.

Yes, I agree with the others. You should enter a quilt. I was in a challenge with a couple of quilting buddies and we decided to enter them in our Quilt show. I was a little bit nervous, but in the end when you walk around the show and you come upon your quilt, it makes you feel proud.Especially when people are talking about it and taking pictures. I have pictures of our 3 quilts and the story behind it on my page.

If you want to do it, do it. A good way to start is with the same collection of fabric. You can try out your collection and idea with CT software, it will even tell you how much to buy. There are other sites with the same free help. I have always wanted to do it but time and cost gets in my way.
