Quilt With Us

This is a wall hanging I need to complete.  The mountains, trees and elk are all one piece cut and ironed to the background.  Does anyone have ideas how I could quilt this?  I'm hesitant to begin as a lot of work to cut the scene and I don't want to ruin it.  Thanks for suggestions.

I am a horrible machine quilter...Just cant get my head wrap'd around it I guess but I do like the idea that Carol and Donna gave.  I DID do a woodsy, raw edge fusible wall hanging a few years ago and DID machine quilt it myself (only because I have a BSR foot for my Bernina).  I outlined the designs with invisible thread on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin (color to match backing).  I did free-motion pine trees on the border and ended up being pretty happy with it... enough so that I gave it as a gift to a brother.  It too was batik.  Good luck...be sure to post your finished project.

The cut out is so intricate. You did such a good job on it. I would outline around the cut out and then FMQ in the white background. I think that would make your design pop. I like the suggestion by Carol Ann to use inviible thread. Be sure to post again when the quilting is finished.

Amazing!  Just beautiful.

On these cut-outs, especially in batik, I do FMQ with "invisible" thread on top, cotton on the bottom, around the edges inside the cut-outs; then fill the larger inside areas with loops, "grass" and swirls as needed.  I've given up trying to hand quilt on batik - too tightly woven!  It's hard on my arthritic fingers and you can usually only load 3 stitches on the needle, otherwise you can't pull it through.  Beautiful purply-orange batik, by the way!

Excellent cutting on this piece. I would do FMQ and hand quilting in the white areas to accent the cut out. Stitch in the ditch on black border and some kind of woodsy design on outer border by hand or FMQ. Can't wait to see how you finish it.
