I have an idea for Halloween that I'd like to share with all of you. Of course, you can change the colors around for any holiday. I did this once and it went over quite nicely. Yes, I know October is still a few weeks away yet but you need time to collect your items...
Quilter's Candy by Rhonda@rkmquilts.com
Here's what you need for EACH gift:
small canning jar- either pint or quart, you choose ( buy a box now on clearance!)
black and orange spools of thread ( 1 of each )
black and orange embroidery thread ( 2 of each)
a pack of hand needles
a small sewing kit -the cheap kind with the fold up scissors
1 or 2 Halloween or Fall themed fat quarters
A small quilt block pillow pattern
1 piece Halloween themed fabric 5x5 inches
orange and black ribbon - use the thin cheap kind
orange, white or black netting
big orange and black decorative buttons
*homemade name tag, optional
Arrange threads, needles, fat quarters ( roll up and tie w/ribbon), pattern ( roll it up and tie w/ribbon) and sewing kit ( pull out fold up scissors and set aside) inside bottom of canning jar.
Set flat lid on top of jar. Cover and center 5x5 piece of themed fabric.
Tighten ring around it, so fabric shows through nicely.
Using your choice of ribbon, string through the finger hole of the fold up scissors and tie around the tightened ring, or at the neck of the jar so they hang nicely along the side.
Be creative and decorate the jar around the sides with stickers.
Cut a generous piece of netting (start with a 20x20 inch piece) and center the jar in the center.
Gather up all corners into your hands right above jar, secure with rubber band.
Cut ribbon as desired and tie around rubber band to cover it up.
Tie a couple of black and orange buttons from the ribbon ends for some color.
* A homemade name tag is a nice effect, but if you are unsure of the number of jars you might need, don't do name tags for the guild meeting and just pass out the jars like I did. That way, you don't have to worry about forgetting someone. I wish I had a picture, but I don't right now. Remember, you can use this idea for any holiday or birthday!
