Quilt With Us

My friends and I started this "Nickel" quilt for the Quilts of Valor charity many months ago.  We all contributed fabric and had a few group sewing sessions to get the sub-units together.  Then I offered to piece the blocks together, but I haven't really been able to spend too much time in my sewing room for a while.  This weekend, I finally finished the top.

Our guild has some great LAQs who donate their talents to this cause so I'll take it to the January meeting.  After that, it's just the binding and label!  I've had this in my sewing room for too long and I am relieved to have the top DONE!!!!  Notice the Connecting Threads border fabric!  It was just perfect!

It's a pattern from Pat Speth using nothing but 5" squares (except the border of course!)  That's what makes it perfect for a scrappy quilt. It's in her "More Nickel Quilts" book.  There are a bunch of quilt patterns in that book that I would just love to do.

That is really nice Jennifer.  I am going to start being more active in our local QOV group in January.  My friend Penny has made & contributed 10 quilts by herself.  One design that works wonderfully for these quilts is the Warm Wishes pattern.  It was originally designed to use for Project Linus quilts.  If anyone is interested and doesn't know what it looks like, just google Warm Wishes quilt pattern.  It is really just plain squares and rail fence units, but with the way you do the rail fence units, it looks more complicated than it really is.

Someone will certainly enjoy this beautiful quilt and know that people do care and pray for there safety. I love the scrappy look. Your guild should be really proud of the quilt.
