Quilt With Us

Being of short stature, I use thick padded cushions on my chairs so as to add a few inches height in order to be comfortable when dining or doing any work that requires resting my 'duff'.

The cushions have somewhat thinned out (thanks to a 200+ DH), and stained after so many years of use.  I figure I could wait till the cushions are on sale at either Walmart or K-Mart, but then I realized I have upholstery fabric remnants that I bought years ago when I thought I was going to lose my job.  So last night I got to work, measuring and figuring out how to redo the cushions.  I sewed the fabric into a simple rectangle box with rounded corners, then put an elastic inside the seams.  I kept the original cover on, and then put the new cover over, pulled the elastic tight until the cover was snug.  So none of the covers match, but at least the dirt won't show so much, and my DGD can pick out her own cushion to sit on when she comes visiting.

Very nice, Aida.  I have some cushions to make myself and have considered doing the cover the same way so I can remove it easily for cleaning.

Very clever! I like the look of using several fabrics.

Perfect solution! Love the variety of fabrics.

These look beautiful!  And at a bargain price, for sure.  I love finding ways to use and update what I already have rather than toss and re-buy.  And Pam is right - the price of foam has gotten ridiculous, making it less expensive to buy new, rather than make your own cushions.
