Amen on keeping away from the needle. Linda I put my long-arm machine needle through my left. pinky and believe me it hurt .......bad- Junior almost passed out putting a dressing on my finger. He makes me laugh a lot when I get hurt. If he could hurt worse than me he would.
The needle on the LA is 3 times bigger than on my Bernina.
Going to try using the spring on the Dressmaker too it has feed dog release, so I can go from one project to another I don't like tying up the L.A. with very small projects even though I can take it off/on. I'll tell you all this...if I'd had this sooner it could have saved some time. Its like the Supreme Slider which makes a domestic a breeze to do free-motion quilting on.
You are welcome Barb and Pam anytime I find something that can help us I'm game to try it....within reason that is... You are welcome Di
It should work, but keep your fingers away from the needle. I also understand that putting the stitch length at zero, if you can not drop the feeddogs, will help you have even stitches.
Well aren't you just a WEALTH OF INFORMATION!!! I sent you an email before I checked your QWU page - and here it is Spring Needle. Let us know how you like it. :D Thanks Jeani!
I love it when someone tries something new and reports back. Thanks for the info!
I'd not seen one of these either. Thanks for posting the picture and information.
Just got some of these in the mail today. I'd never seen or heard of this kind of needle being available. They are in the "Schmetz" ABC Pocket Guide." There are quilters who are doing their quilting without using a presser foot. This needle with the spring gives a more open view of where you are going and where you have been in the design you are quilting. The only issue I had at first was the fabric bouncing and increasing the tension with your hands to make the fabric taught takes care of it. If you want to get one and try it go to
put "spring needle" in the quest area.http://www.schmetzneedles.com/
