School cancelled today - Happy Early Thanksgiving!

After 2 days of 2-hr delayed starts, the district decided to cancel the 1/2 day of school today. It's cold here. When I went to bed last night, it was 1 degree. Yes, I know, not as cold as other places, but most of the kids walk to school and aren't prepared for this cold of weather. But it sure was beautiful this morning, with the hoarfrost over all the silver maples on my street. Poor bird was trying to find something to eat alongside my carport, so I grabbed by shoes and coat to go put some seed out for the birds. Although money may be short this time of year, I can't seem to ignore spreading some seed around.

Inside, it's like a zoo. I thought it was a zoo before the fire @ school, but now... If the weather had stayed the way it was, the classroom animals would still be out on the porch. But with this extreme cold, I had to bring them inside. Two nights ago I lay in bed (not counting sheep) but trying to decide where to put all the cages! The rat is on my cutting table in sewing room, guinea pigs had to be moved to a smaller cage and they are in the living room on top of my antique Singer in desk, Mr. Lucky, a single gerbil, is on a side table squeezed between the parrot & lizard cages in dining room, and the gerbil family's 3-level townhouse cage is on stacked plastic tubs in front of the fish tank in dining room.

To Moms out there - you know how the kids always seem to "need" your attention as soon as you get on the phone with a long distance phone call? Well, my animals seem to have that same "need", except I have to compete with the bird sounds...LOL. When Mom called me the other night, I tried to find a quiet room, away form the dogs and cats, to talk to her - thought the bathroom would be quiet. Wrong! The canary and budgie were extremely competitive. Mom was laughing so hard because I was having to almost yell to be heard. I finally gave up and said I would e-mail her. :-D

Too bad I didn't bring my computer home from school - was sure they wouldn't cancel AM class - can't access those files from home, so can't do any school work...bummer. Oh well, guess I'll just have to go sew with the rat. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving - stay safe and warm!

Thanks Terry. The animals are too funny. Tonight I was having trouble remembering who I had fed and who needed to be fed...LOL. Then the gerbil family started fighting over the banana chip I put in there - apparently a treat, so I added enough for everyone. And the guinea pigs keep making noise - their begging noise, but I've fed them al sorts of food and treats. Maybe they're just being "happy" noisy. And the rat looks like a little old man now - old, wrinkly, all hunched over, moving slow, but still loves his treats. Tonight he got some turkey frank bits, banana, broccoli, and yellow pepper to go with his rat chow. Tomorrow he'll get yogurt and orange slice, his favorites.

Those animals are lucky to have you Suzanne! Taking care of them is a whole lot of work! Wish I could help.

Well Betty - the cats and dogs are there too. I have 4 cats and 4 dogs, and the daybed in that room is usually full with animals snuggling. And when I need a nap, i just push them aside and snuggle right in there with them. :-)

Suzanne, your description of how you are trying to fit all the classroom critters in your house during the cold weather really made me smile! Bless you for caring for them so much. (I think I have sewn with a rat too, but I didn't know that about her at the time!)

I loved looking at all your critters. I have two birds and a dog so I admire your stamina in taking care of all them. Bless you for caring so deeply for all of them. Happy Thanksgiving.
