Well, made it to Florida on June 2nd after taking 2 days to get here. Drove through heavy rains, fog and crazy drivers from Ohio to Florida. Drove through some crazy towns, such as Big Bone Lick, SC or Stinky Creek, GA. Can't help but wonder WHERE they came up with these names. My favorite was Coosalachiwhachi! LOL.
After celebrating my birthday on Monday, we began searching for a new home. The last one we ended up walking away from due to some important information not being disclosed. We've seen some interesting homes and have discovered that SOME realtors are photo-shopping the pictures they put on the web. For example, we saw a beautiful home but when we went to look at it, there was a lot of wood rot all on the front of the eaves, the soffits and some structural damage. These things would have definitely shown up in the pictures. Additionally, the carpets were unbelievable and the HUGE kitchen actually was smaller than my bathroom! The piece de resistance, however, was the "beautiful" pool. When I looked into its sparkling blue waters, there was what I thought was a "dead" frog. Upon closer examination, however, I could see that it was a mating frog. Still looking closer at the rest of the pool, I could see that the surface was covered with floating frog eggs, hatching frog eggs, tadpoles, pollywogs in various developmental stages and FROGS of all sizes and shapes. Talk about an interesting turn of events!
Have had some R&R, like today, for instance. Our realtor had a family emergency so we took a play day and went to the zoo! Had a blast and even had our photo's taken with a White Rhino. Will be here for a few more days and, hopefully, when we return to Michigan it will be to finish packing up our house and getting ready to make the move to Florida.
The adventure continues!

Best time to look at homes is when it is raining. That's when any problems that are there will definitely show up. Went to look at a house that really looked promising and from the outside, it looked pretty good. While waiting for the realtor to get the key she needed we walked around the back of the property to examine the outside of the pool enclosure and saw that the bottom of the screening needed to be replaced, there were ferns/weeds growing up through the slats of the deck. That was no big deal just a little TLC needed there. We did notice that parts of the yard had standing water and the ground was somewhat soggy. No surprise there as we were in the middle of Tropical Storm Adrian.
Finally got inside the house and we were ALL surprised. The place stank of heavy smoke and nearly choked us to death. The kitchen was non-existent and the rooms were very tiny. For a house that was purportedly 1740 SF, it had nothing. When we went out to examine the deck, the roofline over the porch leaked big time. Then we went and looked at the pool. Mind you this is an ABOVE ground pool surrounded totally by a deck built to fit. It was obvious that it had not been cleaned in a while due to the sentiment on the bottom and I could do nothing but laugh out loud. What, you ask, is so funny about dirt on the bottom of the pool? Believe it or not, FROG Mansion had expanded to THIS home. Mind you, these homes are an hour apart! We could not believe it. Even our realtor was amazed not only by the way the home was but by the deja vu of the frogs. We all had a good laugh as we prepared to go look at the last home for the day.
The adventures continue. At least we can honestly say that the trip has been anything BUT dull! LOL. I will be glad when I can do some sewing. Wish I had brought along some handwork to do.
Wishing you all the best and THANKS for the birthday wishes. The celebration has been one I will remember for a LONGGGGG time!
That has to be frustrating Terri -- but the frog story really did make me laugh. Glad you are keeping your sense of humor. Good luck with the hunt.
Sounds like you are enjoying the adventure! Continue with that attitude and things will work out! Good luck...
Wow, buyer beware! Hope the house hunting soon turns up something you can call home. Sounds like an adventurous birthday for you this year! Hope you had a chance to celebrate, at least a little. Next year's birthday should be less stressful!
Happy Belated Birthday! Hope you had a great day! I have to agree with you about listings on the internet - they sure can be deceiving. We are just back from a house hunting trip. We managed to buy a house in a 10-day period. This was not our first relocation, but it is still stressful. DH is retiring and hopefully this will be our permanent location.
Good luck with your house search in Florida and your upcoming move.
Shopping on line for a house can be very deceiving. Years ago a family moved here from Indiana after buying a house on line. The house had been condemned by the city as it was ready to fall down a steep embankment onto the railroad tracks. ( And the realtor is still selling houses). This family was without a house to move into. The city helped them find a place to live but you can imagine being in that predicament. How did the realtor explain the condition of the house with all the frogs? Did he tell you they would be moving out with the homeowners? Belated Happy Birthday.
So happy that you have a sense of humor throughout this. You definitely have some adventures to write about later. Pray that you will be directed to the house that is just right for you so the move can be comleted. Take care and stay strong.
Glad you made it there safe and sound, even if some of the sound was laughter at the names of towns you went through! LOL It's good you are there to walk through places and really see what they are like. Hope the right one is found in the next few days.
