Quilt With Us

I finished hand stitching down the binding on my row robin this morning.  I have the label made, but it hasn't been stitched on yet.  I still need to add the hanging sleeve too.   It has been so much fun using some of the various decorative stitches on my new Pfaff 5.0.  The only thing I would say that I'm struggling with on this machine is doing binding as I don't feel the IDT system is quite as good as using a regular walking foot.  I have my 1st class on this machine this afternoon so I'm going to ask the dealer if there is something I can do a bit differently to make sure my corners are as crisp as I like them to be.  Other than that, I'm thrilled with this little quilt.  It was a row robin made by members of an online group I used to co-own with my friend Lou Ann.

It is nice to hear from you Gayle!  I hope things are doing okay for you.  It has been a long time since we "chatted".

Barbara, I agree that there are few things in life better than a new sewing machine!  <grin>  I'm going to get my next one basted tomorrow.  This time I'm going to choose one that won't have so many design changes so I can get it done quicker.

Janet it looks great. I am going to take hubby to his Dr. In N.O. In March and I will find the Pfaff dealership while I am down there. It is a long drive for me but I can hardly wait as I want a new machine also. There is not a dealer here that handles that brand. If not Pfaff, I may want a Baby Lock/Unity.

I'm so happy you are in love with your new machine. There are better things, but not many.

Thanks Donna.  I considered buying a Janome, but the dealer is going to retire at the end of this year and I was concerned about future service so I went with the Pfaff as she intends to be around for several more years.

Beautiful quilt Janet. I, too, had a Viking that was really difficult to work with. I traded it in and got a Janome that I just love!!!!!! What a difference a good machine makes! Good luck with your new machine.

Thanks everyone.  I showed this quilt to the store owner & her employees today along with the rest of the ladies in my class & received a lot of compliments on it. The store owner was impressed that I had used that many decorative stitches even before I took my 1st class!  These machines are so uder friendly though that it was easy enough to do.   She said the employee who does all of the bindings in her store using the same top stitch foot I have already purchased so I'm going to practice using it.  Rachel Libby has been encouraging me to learn how to do the entire binding by machine & this is the foot you use to do that.

So glad you're enjoying your new machine. The quilt looks wonderful...just what we all need to remember that spring will come again. Can't wait to see you tackle the rest of your UFOs!

This is really cute! I really do think the bird blocks are as they are supposed to be. I was checking out my birds this morning after I fed them and thought of you as this quilt! I think it's perfect! Good job!

I've always gotten along well with  the Pfaff IDT system on mine, but in all fairness I don't have anything to compare it to, other than without.  I've never had a machine that had a separate walking foot.  Great job finishing up your UFOs.  You are really going to town on them!

You're right; a well-performing machine can really make the difference between a "chore" and a "joy"!  Your quilt is very cute.
