Nine-Patch Assembly Instructions:

Cut 4 - 4 1/2" squares of background fabric.
Cut 8 - 2 1/2" squares of background fabric.
Cut 6 - 2 1/2" squares of color 1.
Cut 6 - 2 1/2" squares of color 2.

1. Sew together 4 of each of the 2 1/2" squares of color 1 and color 2 with the 8 - 2 1/2" squares of background. Assemble into checkerboard squares that are 4 1/2".

2. Sew together 2 of each of the 2 1/2" chain color squares with each other. Assemble into a checkerboard square.

3. Sew together a color 1 checkerboard square with a 4 1/2" background square and a color 2 checkerboard square.

4. Repeat step 3.

5. Sew together a background square with the 2 color checkerboard square and another background square.

6. Assemble the three strips together so they resemble the picture and the color 1 and color 2 squares form an X.

You're welcome! I'm using this as a setting block between 8 point star blocks with a black background. The only instructions I could find online for this block was for strip piecing to make multiple blocks. I figured some people might want to only make one, so making it a nine patch block was easier.

Thanks for sharing this block...I'm already visualizing a project for after the holidays.  Although, now that I think of it, it would be great in reds and greens for Christmas, too :-)
