Quilt With Us

I have been so busy. My quilt group, The Scrapbag Quilters, of Maupin/Wamic, Oregon, just had a retreat to the Oregon coast. It was wonderful. We spent 4 days and 3 nights quilting and enjoying the get away before summer starts. We stayed at Beachcomber's in Gleneden Beach just south of Lincoln City. The lady that owns it is a quilter and she has the room set up for quilting. She took a 3 car garage with lots of windows into a wonderful place for meeting and sewing. It is block off the ocean. Some of us walked on the beach or went to the casino or went shopping, or bargain shopping. There were 18 of us and we had a great time.
I have started working for another season in Maupin at The Oasis, in Maupin. It is great for fly fishing and white water rafting. We at The Oasis put on what we call Quit and Cast retreats. The men go fishing and the women quilt for a whole weekend. They are fun and fill up fast. This is not to say that the man could not quilt and the woman go fishing or any way you want to make it work.
My group gets together every Monday morning. We have had to move to our local church as the quilt shop we were meeting at has closed for now. But it is so much fun to see what everyone is working on.

The Oregon coast is stunning! I'm not sure I'd get much done there, I'd be staring out the window. It sounds like great fun and the Quilt and Cast retreats too. How creative.

The Oregon coast is absolutely beautiful! Spent one summer living in Lincoln City & could have stayed there forever, lol. Hubby was on a contract job, & things slowed down, so we got transferred, oh well! Sounds like you are working at a neat place too, I think the idea of the fishing & quilting retreats!

Ina - I know right where you were for your retreat. My 'Aqua Nut' group spent many retreats (not quilting ones) in Gleneden Beach, right on the ocean (you know those two houses that about washed into the ocean a few years ago.... well, one of them was "our" house. Fabulous view of the ocean. The picture on my page of the Adirondack chairs with the ocean in the background was taken there. I love your Quilt and Cast retreats! I had thought about something like that a while back. My husband is getting into fly fishing and it seems like a perfect thing for couples to be able to get away and both do what they love. How fun.

Ina, That all sounds so nice, and a lot of fun... I think groups of 18 like that can have a really fun time. I love the men go fishing, ladies quilt. I remeber up north in the cape, where I come from.. the men cooked all the meals and the ladies did the clean up. Big groups like that are really neat! I love the title of your group... Nice to meet you... Hugs Morgan
