Quilt With Us

Perhaps of all the quilts I have made this one holds the most meaning. It depicts the life of our Lord and Savior "Jesus" and my fabrics were chosen to represent events in His life. I chose the brown batik because it reminded me of the beginning, John 1 vs 1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. The blocks from left to right, "Whither Thou Goest" the story of Ruth, King Davids Crown, Garden of Eden, Garden Walk "I come to the garden alone", The Nativity, Dove in the Window Matt 10 vs 16 "Behold I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Hosanna Mark 11 vs 9 & 10. Jobs's troubles, story of Job, Storm at Sea, Matt 8 vs 24-27 Cross and the Crown, I used the thorn fabric to represent the cross and the stars for the crown. Kings Crown Esther 6 vs 7 & 9 and last Golgotha, John 19 vs 17 the thorns his crucifixation and the trees represent, He was hung on a tree. The trees will be the backing for this quilt. Thank you for letting me share this with you. I am overwhelmed by the representation of this quilt and its meaning and that God would give me the talent to make it. I give Him all the Glory and Honor for any talent I have. In His Name, Linda

I also put other pics of this quilt on my page, close-ups of the corners.

In The Garden is one of my favorite songs that holds alot of memories for me. It was sung at my nephew's and my father's funeral.
This is an amazing quilt and a unique form of testimony. What a great opportunity you had.

Thank you all so very much for your comments on my quilt. I am glad it touched your hearts. Quilts definitely move us in many ways, some with laughter, some with awe, some we go ape over and others that have a quietness about them that go deep into the soul. Each of us has been given a gift by God to lift spirits, touch hearts and share love with others by what we do. God I thank you for each of these women and for their love of quilting and for You who gave them their gift. Thank you ladies. God Bless each of you!!

Linda - the blocks by themselves were each beautiful but together it is even more than I imagined. Breathtaking....what a wonderful tribute to your faith. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Carol

Linda, I'm so moved by your description of your quilt, its meaning, and its purpose. The quilt is just beautiful. thank you for sharing it with us. Isn't it funny how, even in quilting, we wait and we wait until "suddenly" the time is right for fulfillment and completion. Wouldn't it be cool for a church or retreat center to sponsor a Biblical quilt show? It could include Biblical quilts, prayer shawls, banners, altar cloths, even liturgical stoles (which are a bit foreign to this Baptist girl, but sometimes so beautiful).

Linda such a witness to the Lord our Savior. Beautiful fabric choices and block patterns. I too believe that He gives us the talent and we need to praise Him with the particles of talent He does give us. Awesome job.
